Not Everything that It Could Have Been,
By Michael Travis Jasper "author of the novel T... (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonder Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
Wonder Woman is the novelization of a screenplay by Michael Jelenic. It seems to be set in the present, though this is never really clarified. This is an origin story, and tells how Princess Diana leaves the island of Amazons and all she has known to return plane-crashed pilot Steve Trevor to the outside world.
Unlike the popular TV series, this story focuses on Diana's comic book connections to Greek mythology, leading to a huge battle with the god of war, Ares. My reading of this book coincidentally matched a rumor of a new TV series based on this most famous female superhero. I hope it is handled with respect and reverance for the original series. Frankly, one of the things I missed most in this book was the spinning magical costume change. It's the best part. Michael Travis Jasper, author of the novel "To Be Chosen"

Animated Movie Tie-In,
By
This review is from: Wonder Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
Thousands of years ago, the Greek god of war, Ares, was bound by Zeus and captured by Themyscira. Themyscira is now an isolated island of Amazon warrior women. But when Colonel Steve Trevor crashes lands on an island that appears out of nowhere, Diana's mother decides that it's time to reach out to the twenty-first century world. And Diana is chosen as their ambassador. But when Ares escapes and begins causing chaos and destruction, Diana dons a familiar red, white, and blue outfit and becomes Wonder Woman.
In an adaptation of the animated Wonder Woman movie, we get a glimpse of Diana's origin story. Diana is an Amazon princess, strong, beautiful, and fearless. Steve Trevor has an instinctual attraction to her, and wants to help her adapt to the modern world. In a strange mixture of Greek mythology meeting the modern twenty-first century, there are larger-than-life gods facing realistic human characters. And it's a lot of fun. With loads of action scenes and drama, comic book fans will not be disappointed. As a strong, independent female, Wonder Woman is a role model for all women. And the animated film novelization is no exception.

Justice League has its own female leader,
By Leia Solo "Leia" (Vienna, VA USA) - See all my reviews

This is a good take on how Wonder Woman came about and how she became the savior of her people plus also the people of Earth too. Her character is very good in that you see another side of this comic book character other than what you already know who is a crime fighter by night and a regular person by day. Really good book, and recommended highly.

Let me first say that I'm NOT a book reader. I only bought the book because I cannot wait till March 3rd for the PG-13 animated movie to come out. This book is based on that movie. With that said, I'm so GLAD I did. Makes me even more excited for the movie.
I won't be giving anything away, but this book easily tells the back story of the Amazons on Thymesceria, an island paradise completely governed and inhabited by woman. Not just any women. Almost all woman are strikingly beautiful and deadly. The story behind them that you will uncover in the first chapter is gripping, startling, amazing, and really kicks the book off to a good start. It starts off far in the past in Greece, in a heated grisly battle of ancient times between men and woman. The woman have long endured terror, rape, and other violent forms of abuse for some time and now they are strong enough to go against Ares (God of War) and his many followers which consists of men and monsters, who only thrive on violence upon others. You pretty much know who is going to win, but its only the beginning and it clearly shows why the Amazons are so against men and why they're secluded on an island to themselves. Ares (also son of Zues) is to stay prisoner for all eternity by the Amazon's. Diana (Wonder Woman) really doesn' |
