5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, Wonderful Resource, February 17, 2009

This review is from: The Wonder that is Sanskrit (Paperback)
I ordered this book out of interest from Amazon, and what a beautiful book I got. As the title promises, this book really has many wonders for both, a scholar immersed in Sanskrit, as well as for a novice who just started to explore the Sanskrit language out of curiosity and an awe. I find that many followers of Yoga have developed a keen liking for Sanskrit, and this book will open doors for them, as well as others.
Divided in to ten chapters, the book explores Sanskrit not only as a spiritual language par excellence, but gives glimpses of its vast and varied literature that touch many aspects of life.
Authors Sampad and Vijay deserve kudos for this effort, it is indeed a great labor of love. As an ardent, life long student and scholar of Sanskrit, I highly recommend this book.

This review is from: The Wonder that is Sanskrit (Paperback)
As the previous reviewer notes, this is clearly a labour of love. The authors have provided us with a birds-eye view of the glories of the Sanskrit language, and they are to be commended for their efforts. The book is well organized and logically compiled. There are many beautiful Sanskrit quotations in it which I have started committing to memory. Sampad and Vijay have done an excellent job of providing references and footnotes, an exceptionally valuable part of this book. In particular, I was most happy to finally learn (after years of forwarded e-mails on the subject!) the source of how Sanskrit is being used by NASA.

Overall, and in a clear nod to A.L. Basham, a superlative introduction to the Wonder that is Sanskrit.
