This is a great book! We have so many books in our home that I hadn't even realized how great this book is. My mom had gotten it and I had totally forgotten about it until my 6 year old grabbed it for a car trip. There's a special section at the end talking about adoption and about how Jesus was adopted by Joseph. It discusses the virgin birth very well which, let's face it,can be a little tricky for any parent. The 2 different texts-large print for ages 3-8 and the smaller print for 9-14-is a great idea.

When I was a kid my parents bought a few books about the birds/bees that were rather graphic (in my opinion) and left me thinking that in order for a child to be conceived the couple had to be "in love". So when I went shopping for a book to read to my children I read each one with a rather critical eye for the *whole* truth about how babies are conceived. This book covers conception and more in a way that is honest but also age appropriate. My 8 year old daughter has asked some interesting moral questions (related to sex) and this book answers them in a way that I feel is sensitive as well as Biblically sound.

I've got to say that I agree with the other 1 star review in saying this book has grand potential to be a stumbling block for children. I remember reading it when I was young (old enough to read the small print), and due to the pictures of naked couples I felt a sense of shame because I wanted to look at those pictures more than the others in the book. I know as an adult that the shame I felt was due to the intimate nature of those illustrations. I certainly felt like I was sneaking a peek at something that wasn't intended for anyone else's eyes (not even grown ups)! I think showing couples together with their clothes on, enjoying each other in everyday scenes that children are familiar with, and leaving the explanation in words rather than specific pictures, would have given me the necessary information while leaving enough to wonder about and discuss with my parents. As it was, I felt embarrassed to ask my parents any questions about the information because I was so embarrassed by the naked grown ups in the pictures!
As a parent of three children, I have looked for a book to give information that is age appropriate, while not feeding the desire to keep looking at something children know they shouldn't be seeing. I have found the series "God's Design For Sex" to be excellent! We've only used the first 2 out of 4 books and are considering moving onto the third since our son is within the recommended age range now. The first two books we have used do an excellent job of giving information that is accurate without intimate pictures that leave children feeling like they shouldn't be looking.
Another reviewer called this book "soft porn", and unfortunately I'd have to agree. Just because the couples in the illustrations are married (or drawn and not photographed) doesn't make it ok for children to be able to see what is going on in this intimate act (even if the "private" parts are covered).

Nicely laid out. I was having trouble getting thru "the talk" with my kids this made it a little easier. Good explanations. I was still a little embarrassed to read it.Presents the act of love making as a gift from God that should be shared within the boundaries of marriage.

images not appropriate, please refer to every man's/woman's battle books to understand what I mean. i know what sparked impure thoughts in me and my cousins and this book has it. there are several pictures of nude couples (course u cant see the private parts). Adam and eve where eve is facing away from the audience with her legs spread eagle and adam has his hand halfway up her thigh, for example. now my kids are very keen on that stuff and thats just not a seed i want to plant or grow roots. dont get me wrong, we dont keep our kids under a rock, how can u anyway with public school. but we want to teach them the best response. also content is terrible attempt to teach what sex is and what purity means. is not biblical at all! i bought 2 different books to approach this topic and puberty along with purity. this book written in a "law bound" mindset-"you HAVE to stay pure because its the right thing to do" type stuff rather than explaining the truth and giving that responsibility to the child in a way that is edifying rather than condemning like this book does. the other book that i ordered, What Is God's Design for My Body (The Miracle of Creation Series) Susan Horner, which does an AWESOME job explaining the value the kids have in Gods eyes and purity is a great way to show value to yourself God and others. (i am horrible with explaining these things, that why i am searching for something to explain it cuz i wasnt raised this way. though i have a good understanding the words just arent there yet. i already loaned it to a friend so i cant quote and give a great example. so know that my words to express this 2nd book are lacking). she does a good job explaining puberty especially on the boys end(girls is great too but boys i find to be more difficult) with wet dreams and such.Read more ›

I bought this book for my daughter when she was 5 years old. She asked me where babies came from and I decided this was the best way to approach it. Wanting a Christian perspective, I purchased this from our local Christian bookstore. This is a very honest (without being crude) description of how babies are made. It covers intercourse (making love between a husband and a wife), how the sperm fertilizes the egg, how the baby grows in the uterus or womb, and how the baby is born. It even covers adoption. Now intercourse is described in detail, using the technical body part descriptions. Making love however is described as a very special and wonderful experience that a husband and wife share with each other giving them a sense of love and closeness. I liked the fact that they included both. Naturally, sex is included as that is how babies are made. Even so, there is NO real nudity in it. The couple lying in each other's arms (under the covers) only shows their shoulders and arms. It's a very loving pose. Even the picture of Adam and Eve just shows their backs. There is no genitalia shown at all. This book is very tame and is very tastefully done. So if you are wanting to teach your child that sex outside of marriage is ok, this book isn't for you. My daughter at 5, just look at the pictures and asked basic questions. I tried to read it to her then, but she stopped me and said she wasn't ready for the whole story yet. So it set on her book shelf and each year as she learned to read, I'd see her read a little bit more until she was comfortable reading the whole book. So take your child's cues on how much they are ready to learn. As a parent, you'll know better than anyone. Don't leave it up to your public school to teach it for you, you may not like what they learn. I feel this is one book that she may very well pass on to her own children one day, when that time comes. It's very well written.
