5.0 out of 5 stars Pain where have you gone?, February 22, 2005
This review is from: Wonderful Beef (Audio CD)
My boyfriend and i came across a pain cd in freakin bargain bin for a buck, in an independent music store in NY, we took it home and listened to it and it blew us away. Every song is great, the lyrics, the music, everything. What happened to this band? Bad promotion? Crappy management? I have no idea how a great band like this slipped through the cracks, to anyone who considers themself a music fan, weather you like ska, rock, or indie music, i suggest you buy this album right away, hell buy all their albums, Pain what happned to you?

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Just Such A Pain....., February 13, 2004

In case you are at all wondering, Pain broke up a few years ago, which is why finding their music is rather hard.

That in mind, they are a great band, and one of the only things that redeems Alabama. I am not even a big fan of Ska, but Pain has always had a way of catching the listener off guard with their over-the-top humor, and catchy beats. The lead singer has an incredibly dynamic voice, which works great at personifying the nerd in his lyrics.

This CD, while said before, is not their cleanest, but is most definitely the more diverse of the 3. Right away songs such as In A Band, Gavin, and Suckerpunch keep you rocking out, while the more astranged songs such as Easy Out, and The Song Of The 7 Inch Cowboy offer a comical experience.

Their CDs were out of print, but you can now get them via their website(http://www.thepainpage.com), which is great news for all of those who should've been exposed to this band, but weren't.

I severely doubt you will see much beyond these albums, as there happened to be a lot of disputes in the band, but live with what you have. Do yourself a favor, and buy their records. If nothing else, you will be amused. Also, you could be missunderstood as being a geek with these CDs, whereas if you bought the TechnoMetal CD by that other Pain band, you'd just be trying to buy your way into a genre full of bad cliches.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Pain album., December 6, 2001

I still can't figure out why Pain isn't the most popular band around. Look at all these five star reviews! This is my favorite album by Pain. It's just plain fantastic. Every track is a masterpiece. Suckerpunch is second only to One Legged Girl, Seven Inch Cowboy is hilarious, and In A Band is my personal theme song. Although Full Speed Ahead is really a tighter album, I like this one best, probably because it was my first Pain record. Just trust me and buy this, it's the best record put out in the entire decade.
BTW, why doesn't Amazon carry Full Speed Ahead? Oh well, just buy it at Pain's website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gavin oh Gavin!, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Wonderful Beef (Audio CD)
This is (was) a extreamly fun and talented band. I have seen them live so many times and each time they just got better. If you have the doe or even if you don't (borrow it) buy this and MWG to educate yourself on this great band from Alabama (the best thing to come from there in a long time). I love this album so much I named my son Gavin after "Gavin" off of there first disc and then this one later. "seven inch cowboy" should give you a good laugh, and I believe that "suckerpunch" is only out done by "square pegs" on MWG. "The man upstairs" is really well done and you should learn the words, it makes a great sing a long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every beat you can think of, June 1, 2003

This review is from: Wonderful Beef (Audio CD)
Pain has got to be one of the most versatile bands I have ever Heard. One of my friends got me into them after introducing them to ska. Although they don't like being called a ska band and they're really not. They hvae some ska songs but they really do anything. One of my favorite songs of theirs, on their previous album "Midgets with Guns", called Chuck Al Hashib actually had a tango rythym to it. It's this versatility and their sense of fun that keeps me into their music much longer than I've been interested in any other band.

the other day my friend Mark said he had a CD for me to listen to. now he said to be open to it and just let it be. so I took a listen to it and MAN do I love it! very old school ska feel to it, but it's also very modern. I love the catchy tunes and how you can just jump and dance around to it. = )

This review is from: Wonderful Beef (Audio CD)
THIS CD IS AWESOME! i am constantly on the look out for great music and i dont know how this band eluded me for so long. I feel like i missed a big part of music history. Catchy music, fun and well written lyrics, and horns! who could ask for anything more? Pain is one of those bands that you can listen to and think.."wow..these guys had alot of fun doing this" and thats what music is all about. doing your thing and having fun.
I highly recommend this and any other Pain cd you can find. theyre out there. Get them and make your life better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tastes like yum!, May 15, 2002

Stephen Somerville (San Leandro, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I learned about this band, pain, because they do a jabberjaw music video on cartoon network which totally rules. Ok, pain is like a rock band, but with keyboards and horns and stuff, normally I'd say they were ska, but they aren't really, and they staunchly deny any connections with being a ska band. Their songs tend to be fast and catchy. Good songs include In a Band, Antidote, and The Man Upstairs. If you're looking for something that's a little different in a really sugar-high sort of way, check these guys out. good stuff.
