"I picked this book up at Goodwill for a nickel. Honestly, I was incredulous, but for the price I figured I could risk it. This is perhaps the best romance novel I've ever read (and it's clean too!). It's based loosely upon the true story of a girl engaged to Napoleon, who later became queen of Switzerland. Read it."
"I've read this book sooo many times- it's wonderful. I've reread it every year since the first time I picked it up in 6th grade. You don't have to be a child to appreciate the story of a boy during Revolutionary America."
"Although I do prefer the movie plot better, The Count is a wonderful read. Vengence, hate, love, pirates, prison, and gold. What I find aggravating however is that the count does not get his true love until the sequel, Edmond Dantez. For that reason, I like the way the movie ends better, but The Count of Monte Cristo is a classic, well worth the time it takes to read."
"Some say this is the first "gothic novel", I suppose in a way it is dark, but I loved it for the love story. Jane is an ordinary plain girl who falls in love with a rich, intelligent, and witty man who is her employer. Yet everything for poor Jane goes wrong, but it ends happily ever after... pretty much. This is perhaps my favorite book."
"I think I have always had some sort of crush on Horatio. All of the Hornblower Saga are worth reading, but the first is my favorite. Somehow the sea always seems to come alive in its pages- its great!"
