This new series by Tommy Kovac and Sonny Liew follows the adventure, chaos and hijinks in Wonderland as the Queen of Hearts is determined to get to the bottom of who exactly caused her so much trouble. We’re also introduced to the OTHER human resident of Wonderland, a timid little girl named Mary Ann.

More About the Author

Tommy Kovac has been writing and illustrating comics and other works since 1999. He wrote & illustrated the original comic book series "Stitch," "Skelebunnies," and "Autumn," through SLG Publishing.
Kovac then wrote "Wonderland" for SLG/Disney, a new look at Lewis Carroll's classic Alice stories, illustrated by Sonny Liew. It was selected for the American Library Association's "Great Graphic Novels For Teens" list for 2010.
Kovac's latest writing project is, "The Royal Historian of Oz." This graphic novel takes a unique look at L. Frank Baum's Oz through the eyes of a failed writer named Jasper Fizzle, and his teenage son, Frank. "Royal Historian" is illustrated by Andy Hirsch, and published by SLG.
Kovac's storytelling ranges from naughty, to tragic, to fantastical, depending on the project. He has no formal training in art or writing, but reads all the time, and belongs to the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators, as well as a writer's critique group. Sometimes he also creates zines ("Library Bonnet," and "Disenchanted Moue") filled with thoughtful essays, dirty drawings, spontaneous cartoons, and weird activity pages. He's even done some very recent dabbling in eBook publication.
Kovac currently works full-time as a library technician for a 7th-12th grade college prep academy, and resides in Orange County, California, with his handsome husband, Anthony. They've been together since 1990.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful, May 28, 2006
This review is from: Wonderland, No. 1 (Paperback)
This wonderful little comic, concerning the aftermath of the attack of the Alice Monsters on the great Queen of Hearts and all of Wonderland, is from Slave Labor's new line of Disney comics.
Sonny Liew's gorgeous, right pencils are overlayed with delicate watercolour-style colouring, with just colours that are ever so slightly off hue, making for a delightful off beat reading.
The title primarily concerns Mary Ann, the White Rabbit's maid who he mistook Alice for, who is about to experience the trouble that comes with being a girl creature with hair and a dress thing after a similar girl creature brings havoc to the land.
Highly recommended, from the publishing company behind Skeleton Key and Jhonen Vasquez's work, the artist of My Faith in Franky and Malinky Robot, and the writer of Autumn. Be sure to check it out!
Oh, and on top of all that, the production values are well worth your 3.50. NO advertisements save for a Disney line promo on the back cover, lovely glossy paper, and a cardstock cover, so your comic is nice and sturdy for multiple readings.
So much goodness!
SO MUCH!
That and the White Rabbit is quite cute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wondrous Collaboration, May 26, 2006
This review is from: Wonderland, No. 1 (Paperback)
I have to say that this new take on Wonderland and it's inhabitants surpassed my expectations! I knew that Tommy Kovac's previous works were great but I wasn't familiar with Sonny Liew at all. The only thing I had to go on was the beautiful cover illustration. When I received my copy and perused the inside I was very pleased to find that the whole book was filled with drawings as awesome as the cover! I just love the colors AND Sonny's interpretations of all the amusing characters. BUT, what really makes the book work is Kovac's writing. It's so inventively humorous. I eagerly await the next issue!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Who is Mary-Ann?, October 10, 2008
This review is from: Wonderland, No. 1 (Paperback)
This humorous story is about the house maid that the White Rabbit initially mistook Alice for, a character from Lewis Carroll's first Alice book that was nothing more than a mention that left many curious about her.
It is not said how old she is, but seeing as she lives alone, I'm going to assume that she is a short adult or teenager. This story is fun, but in my opinion, too short, or to say that it's good enough to leave you wanting a sequel.

In a nutshell, this is the story about a house maid with flimsy dreams & small ambitions, who is out to clear her boss' name on suspicion of treachery that the Dum brothers set him up for. The Cheshire cat plays a practical joke that backfires & Mary-Ann & the White Rabbit find themselves banished down a Treacle Well, where a political scandal involving 4 queens unravels & rebellion by Alice admirers is about to take place. I won;t spoil the rest for you.
