5.0 out of 5 stars Take a Trip Metaphysical In Wonderland, April 9, 1998
This review is from: Wonderland Tarot Deck: 78-Card Deck (Cards)

This is the 6th of my 7 (so far) decks.

One of the most noticeable things about this deck is that the traditional suits have been changed: swords = flamingos; rods = peppermills; cups = hats; and pentacles = oysters. The suits are also marked with the corresponding symbols from ordinary playing decks: hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs. The artwork is based on that in Lewis Carroll's Wonderland books. All of the characters from Alic's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass appear, including the Walrus and the Carpenter, the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, Bill the Lizard, the Mock Turtle, and the Cheshire Cat. Lewis Carroll appears as the Magician. Of course Alice appears repeatedly throughout the deck.

The illustrations are well done and capture the spirit of the books, with story elements well matched to cards' meanings. The deck feels good to hold, in part because they are close to the size of a standard playing deck. Also, the cards are of sturdy high quality, and have a strong, positive metaphysical feeling. As far as I know, there is not a companion book to go with this deck yet. The enclosed pamphlet gives basically the same interpretation as US Games usually includes with its decks. The pamphlet does give a little more interpretation specific to the illustrations in the Wonderland deck than it does with other decks.

This is a very unique and original deck. I would suggest it to anyone who collects tarot or is a Wonderland fan. I consider it an important part of my collection, but I'm not sure I would use it for a serious reading.

This is my second favorite deck. The Aquarian tarot is my favorite

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful journey through the sub-conscious looking-glass., February 14, 1999

This is my first deck and I highly recommend it for beginners or those with children. The pictures are based, of course, on the illustrations by Sir J Tenniel from the original Alice books. If you've read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (and you really should), you'll gain a far better insight into the cards as well. A lovely deck that may be too precious to use for public readings. Excellent for personal use!

5.0 out of 5 stars I like this deck a lot., May 31, 2000

This review is from: Wonderland Tarot Deck: 78-Card Deck (Cards)
This deck is a Rider-Waite-Smith variant, with the cards redrawn with art from the Alice books.

The art is as beutiful as that of the book, and as the deck is based on RWS, anyone familiar with the former can read with this deck with no effort at all.

The suits of the minor arcana were changed, as noted in a previous review, which personally I find a little confusing.

The deck is made in high quality, with the regular exception of the cardbox, which is a pitty - it's worth keeping for the art's sake.

As an Alice fan and being familiar with the RWS deck, I really like this deck.

I dont read for kids (and I think I would prefer to read with the Inner Child Cards for kids), this deck is reserved for readings in parties and other merry situations.
