4.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical, July 9, 2008
This review is from: Wondermark: Beards of our Forefathers (Collection of Wondermark Comic Strips) (Hardcover)
The type of book that makes you laugh so loud and so painfully that your wife repeatedly asks "what is it?" The bonus material -- "deleted" strips, guest comics, a long-form story -- don't hurt either.

I've been reading the Wondermark strip for about a year or so, and I've really been enjoying it. I love the weird humor in the strip, and this book really captures the spirit of the comic, puts it through a printing press (painful, I know!) and delivers it to your door in a handy travel size!

5.0 out of 5 stars A splendiferous tome of scholarly import, December 16, 2008
This review is from: Wondermark: Beards of our Forefathers (Collection of Wondermark Comic Strips) (Hardcover)
While I enjoy reading the works of Mr. Malki online, there is nothing like the tactile sensuality one feels when holding his book in ones hot little hands. Not only is this pulchritudinous publication filled with Mr. Malki's delightful WonderMark strips, but it also contains, from nook to cranny, many distracting visual treats, curious asides and humorous tidbits. It is a beautifully designed, masterful work and I recommend it without reservation.

Bravo, I say!

Like all of Shelley's poetry, the works in this volume impose something of a pre-postmodernist matrix of assumptions about the nature of incipient reality upon the reader -- assumptions, I might add, not properly appreciable by those unfamiliar with the lovely depredations of absinthe or the glory of beards. As a proud possessor of several sprouted facial whiskers myself, I found myself deeply moved throughout.

If you can't have William Blake croon gentle poetry into your ear, this, then, is the next best thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Classic of Facial Horticulture, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Wondermark: Beards of our Forefathers (Collection of Wondermark Comic Strips) (Hardcover)
Why, not since Madame Pomphrey's Illustrated Guide to Tuberculosis have I read such an astonishing and informative reference of import. I especially enjoyed the sections covering historical taxonomies of beardography as it related to the Industrial Revolution and the invasion of the Gaxxian Armada in 1789. Any persons not having read this new classic should be stripped of their beard in full view of their childhood sweethearts. Also, they should not be allowed any soda at the box social.

If you have been a fan of Wondermark online or in the Onion you will LOVE this book. And if you are not a fan, WHY NOT? This is really funny stuff, smart and satiric, with a smattering of poop jokes. The book is beautiful - really nicely produced and printed. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique humor, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Wondermark: Beards of our Forefathers (Collection of Wondermark Comic Strips) (Hardcover)
Even though I have read all of Wondermark's free online material, this purchase was still absolutely worth it. Not only for the bonus material, which went well beyond just extra strips, but because the comic holds up, and it's great to have a portable book for re-reading.

A brilliant hard-bound collection of David Malki's fabulously weird, cataplexy-inducing Wondermark comic. If you are a fan of the strip, you will not be disappointed--the book is packed with value-added tidbits such as advertisements for offbeat products like "hand-ruined" footless shoes for women and DIY British tooth enamel paint, all handsomely rendered in Malki's signature Victorian lithograph format.

This is a beautiful collection of David Malki ! 's anachonistic webcomic potpourri. Likely to pry a wry grin from the lips of even the most humorless or otherwise sedated reader, Beards of Our Forefathers is a volume I am proud to have on my shelf. Highly recommended for both jocular humans and ursine connoisseurs of whimsical hats.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Don't Buy This, A Ninja on a Unicycle Will Attack You...., September 23, 2010

This review is from: Wondermark: Beards of our Forefathers (Collection of Wondermark Comic Strips) (Hardcover)
You should really just go agead and buy this funny, well-crafter, generally awesome book of comic strips without the imminent threat of ninja-unicycle attacks, but some people need a little extra push.
