A very useful book that will soon be dog eared. I like to pick a few and hide them in pre determined locations in a campaign - to see if a character stumbles across them or not. Add traps and such to the items locations so that the characters really have to earn it ~!

Totally wonderful book. One of the worst things about playing D&D over the years is that sooner or later, all of these hardbound editions are going to "expire:" the 3.0's won't be useable with the 3.5's, the 3.5's don't go with the 4.0's, the Essentials won't go with the 5.0's, etc. But this volume is an exception. While there are a few statistics (of the d20 kind) bringing up the rear, most of this book is simply narrative text that can be used with any edition. So yes, don't have any hesitation to buy this if you think it won't yoke with Essentials: you'd have little work to do. It's basically an anthology of a whole bunch of artifacts, unique items, and cursed items around which many a adventure can revolve. Super good writing! |
