The ONLY book you'll need!!,
By "kiminca" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonderplay (Paperback)
As a first time parent I bought *every* book out there that was labeled "interactive and "developmental" - I could've saved all my time and money had I just discovered "Wonderplay" first! It is by far THE BEST book out there! It's ideas come from a Parenting Center in New York which is what sets this book apart from others - these authors know FIRST HAND that these ideas WORK! The layout is great - starts with play with Children of All Ages, moves to Birth to Six Months, Six to Twelve Months, One-Year-Olds, Two-Year-Olds and lastly Three-Year-Olds. The ideas that they list are all age appropriate, quick, easy and inexpensive! A MUST HAVE FOR FIRST TIME PARENTS!!

The best children's activity book I've ever seen.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wonderplay (Paperback)
First of all, it starts with six-month-old babies with activities they can really do and benefit from. Second, it uses stuff that you really do have around the house, like pillows and blankets. I go mad with frustration when I have my 3-year-old all geared up for a great project and then realize that the seventh thing on the "You Need" list is a styrofoam vegetable tray that I don't have. This never happens with Wonderplay, because the activities are elegantly simply -- and inexpensive! And they really do foster creativity--my child's, not mine!

Lots of Ideas & Fun For little ones!,
By Mom of Five "aishy" (TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonderplay (Paperback)
I recently bought this book to find new games to play with my 16 month old son, as an alternative to TV. It has been wonderful! Not only do we use the one year old section, sometimes I find things in the sections for younger or older children as well. I am looking forward to the arrival of my second child in October so I can try some of the activities for infants with him/her.

A wonderful source for fun interaction for parent and child!,
This review is from: Wonderplay (Paperback)
Wonderplay is a very useful and creative resource for parents. I am very impressed with the amount of crafts and games for the very young-- birth through two years of age. The book incorporates songs, games, play ideas, sing-a-longs,and crafts. The format is very easy to read, and it is also extremely easy if you want to find a quick activity or song if you have only one or two minutes to do so-- or as in my case many times-- a nursing or sleeping infant in my arms! I found it funny that it is sometimes hard to remember all the old nursery rhymes, fingerplays, and games of childhood. This book has some old favorites, plus many great new ones. We have been the type of parents who want to stimulate our son, yet not be too pushy. The Wonderplay book has been a great reference for us.

Very Good,

This book has TONS of songs, finger plays, activities. The lay out makes it easy to use because it is devided into ages. There are things for every member of the family to participate in- activities, cooking, games etc. The reason I rated if four stars rather than five was because for me, this book was TOO MUCH. I found it to be overwhelming to sort out the stuff I wanted from the stuff I didn't want. I found it difficult to really look at this book because there was just so much on each page. Everyone tells me I have an analytical mind and maybe that is my problem. I would have appreciated having a more clean layout- rather than just a jumble of ideas for each age. However, if you have no ideas for dealing with children, this is the book to have. This is a great book if you are a teacher who deals with a variety of prek ages. This book is also good for parents.

Wonderful Wonderplay,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wonderplay (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book. I received it as a gift from an expectant mothers' group I belonged to, from a friend who had received it from someone else. It's easy to read in small sections, which is about all I can manage to do with taking care of the baby. The authors really understand about babies and what they like to do and to play with. I can't wait to give it to someone else so I can share what a treasure this book is.

useless...,

I bought this book because there were several glowing reviews of its content. The suggestions in this book are not creative at all!! I am not creative by nature, but I had thought of most of the ideas listed here. There are sections by age, but each section is small and you could do all of the items in one weekend. The songs and rhymes were the only thing of value in the book. Thumbs down!

Easy to read, USEFUL!,

I really USE this book. All the time, with both of my twins. It is chock full of suggestions, hints, games, songs, and other stuff that the babies really seem to like. I'm recommending it to all the other moms I know.

Not very imaginative,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wonderplay (Paperback)
I bought this book hoping to find new, fun ideas for day to day activities for my one year old. I found nothing new or imaginative at all in the book. Most of the suggestions I already knew about. There were lyrics to songs, but no music -- not very helpful if you don't know the tune. I was so disappointed I returned the book. If you have half an imagination (and I probably have less than that), you already know everything in this book....

We found this book more annoying than helpful. It includes the words for many songs, but not the music, so if you don't know the tune, you can't sing the songs. The recommendations for infants didn't include anything we hadn't thought of before. We much preferred Baby Days. |
