Plain White T's discuss 'Wonders of the Younger' WEBISODE 1

Biography

In some of the most quantifiable ways, the Plain White T’s count as a veteran outfit. After all, the band formed in the late ‘90s, when cofounder Tom Higgenson was still in high school, and the T’s had several independent releases already to their credit even before “Hey There Delilah” became an international sensation and cultural touchstone in 2007.

Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

In regards to Wonders of the Younger: "The scope is a lot bigger than anything we've done before," Tom Higgenson says. "We definitely tried to get out of our comfort zone. Not that we wanted to sound like a different band. But we wanted to push ourselves outside of what the Plain White T's are accustomed to--exploring different arrangements and striving to be more adventurous and exciting lyrically, musically and thematically. It all has to give you that epic feeling that we wanted the album to have. Even the performances that we're doing and the video we made has to have that slightly surreal, slightly fantastic kind of vibe to it."

Product Description

2010 album from the Punk popsters. The album gets off to a faster start with "Irrational Anthem," a sort of thematic overture for the record. "Lyrically," says Higgenson, "I think it says exactly what I want the album to say. I think the line that sums up the whole album is Let your mind go anywhere it wants to. Don't lose your imagination. Don't get so wrapped up in your day-to-day life that you forget to dream or be creative, or forget to recapture those things or at least remember them. That's the beauty of life. I'm a very nostalgic guy, so a lot of where my head lives is in memories. I spend a lot of my time looking back and smiling at past things that have happened in my life."

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing February 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I too love this album. Being an aged Brit, I failed to identify with the High School angst of the earlier CD I had but this has a maturity that appeals to a wider age range.
The customary clever lyrics are there - just the track "Killer" alone is worth buying the album for! I'd ask anyone to give it a listen. There is not a bad track contained within it and I guarantee you'll be humming them all after a few listens. Simply wonderful!

4.0 out of 5 stars very good album December 7, 2010

The songs were interesting and tunes good. A lot of albums are lacking good lyrics and melodies, but this one was an exception. The arrangements are good, also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully melodic December 11, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Like many others, my first introduction to the Plain White T's was Hey There Delilah. It's a song I like very much, but from just this one song, it's impossible to appreciate the talent and range of the group. This album has songs in different styles, from simple and near-acoustic to rock anthems. The songs are both classic and modern at the same time. All of the songs have beautiful singable melodies and good hooks. Here are some of the songs I like best:

Boomerang, feels sort of like the Beatles, Squeeze, or Queen. Could have come from Sgt. Pepper.
Welcome To Mystery, really reminds me of the Beatles.
Rhythm Of Love, a really great rhythm track, and nice vocal harmonies.
Map Of The World, sort of sounds like Sugar Ray.
Airplane, this is the "almost acoustic" one, with simple plaintive lyrics.
Make It Up As You Go, sort of pop-rock with a modern country feel.

I'm likely to listen to this album over and over again, and I'll look for other albums from the group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff here January 20, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you like the Beatles, you'll find you'll LOVE this album! This holds it's own with the best of the middle-Beatles songs without sounding derivative. Harmonies are tight, and though the album has a lush sound, it does not sound over-produced. Definitely give this one a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dot on the map of the world December 9, 2010
By Nate L.
Format:Audio CD
This is a great album, which is usually too simple of a description, but when my only exposure to Plain White T's before this was a song I genuinely loathe called "Hey There Delilah" it really means something. I find the single on this album (Rhythm of Love) better than that song but at the same time much less likeable than every other song on this entire album. I think these guys are much better when they go in other directions besides the standard made for radio single. Songs like Welcome to Mystery and Map of the World are the purist examples of this. The album starts out with an anthem of sorts and leads up to the title track with many creative songs having not only to do with the typical love material found on these types of records, but also dealing with subjects such as another world you can escape to and wondering about where you fit in to the universe. Yes this is the same band who did that annoying Delilah song but I really consider this to be quite good. If you don't let that song influence your judgment of the band, you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonders of the Younger December 23, 2012

I purchased this CD for one of the songs I was hearing played on the radio a lot. Turns out, the majority of the songs on this CD are worth listening to. They have a really good sound. Very enjoyable CD and well worth the $$.

5.0 out of 5 stars unlikely duo not unlike Lennon and McCartney February 24, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I just saw an interview of Tom Higgenson and Tim Lopez. The latter being the sole writer of Rhythm of Love, which seemed to bring Higgenson's ire every time it was mentioned. But it is this song that is the crown jewel as was Hey There Delilah in a previous album. Delilah was written by Higgenson. So here are two geniuses and by their own admission they do not complement each other, but there seems to be real support between the two band mates; especially by Lopez towards Higgenson, who is clearly the leader of the band. To be fair, rest of the songs are interesting and enjoyable to listen. Hope to hear many more great collaborations from them.
