Plain White T's discuss 'Wonders of the Younger' WEBISODE 1

Biography

In some of the most quantifiable ways, the Plain White T’s count as a veteran outfit. After all, the band formed in the late ‘90s, when cofounder Tom Higgenson was still in high school, and the T’s had several independent releases already to their credit even before “Hey There Delilah” became an international sensation and cultural touchstone in 2007.

But as far as the Plain White T’s are… Read more in Amazon's Plain White T's Store

Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

In regards to Wonders of the Younger: "The scope is a lot bigger than anything we've done before," Tom Higgenson says. "We definitely tried to get out of our comfort zone. Not that we wanted to sound like a different band. But we wanted to push ourselves outside of what the Plain White T's are accustomed to--exploring different arrangements and striving to be more adventurous and exciting lyrically, musically and thematically. It all has to give you that epic feeling that we wanted the album to have. Even the performances that we're doing and the video we made has to have that slightly surreal, slightly fantastic kind of vibe to it."

Product Description

The album gets off to a faster start with "Irrational Anthem," a sort of thematic overture for the record. "Lyrically," says Higgenson, "I think it says exactly what I want the album to say. I think the line that sums up the whole album is Let your mind go anywhere it wants to. Don't lose your imagination. Don't get so wrapped up in your day-to-day life that you forget to dream or be creative, or forget to recapture those things or at least remember them. That's the beauty of life. I'm a very nostalgic guy, so a lot of where my head lives is in memories. I spend a lot of my time looking back and smiling at past things that have happened in my life."

5.0 out of 5 stars A dot on the map of the world, December 9, 2010

This review is from: Wonders of the Younger (Audio CD)
This is a great album, which is usually too simple of a description, but when my only exposure to Plain White T's before this was a song I genuinely loathe called "Hey There Delilah" it really means something. I find the single on this album (Rhythm of Love) better than that song but at the same time much less likeable than every other song on this entire album. I think these guys are much better when they go in other directions besides the standard made for radio single. Songs like Welcome to Mystery and Map of the World are the purist examples of this. The album starts out with an anthem of sorts and leads up to the title track with many creative songs having not only to do with the typical love material found on these types of records, but also dealing with subjects such as another world you can escape to and wondering about where you fit in to the universe. Yes this is the same band who did that annoying Delilah song but I really consider this to be quite good. If you don't let that song influence your judgment of the band, you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, February 6, 2011
This review is from: Wonders of the Younger (Audio CD)
I too love this album. Being an aged Brit, I failed to identify with the High School angst of the earlier CD I had but this has a maturity that appeals to a wider age range.
The customary clever lyrics are there - just the track "Killer" alone is worth buying the album for! I'd ask anyone to give it a listen. There is not a bad track contained within it and I guarantee you'll be humming them all after a few listens. Simply wonderful!
