I bought this recently for my nine month old. I can't imagine why the packaging says age two.I like the safe features (nontoxic, not made in China, double hinge on the lid so no pinched fingers) and the overall design (pieces are too small to be a choking hazard, six is a good number of shapes, shapes are all distinct, and the box aspect gives more open ended play value). So far, this is only the second "toy" to really catch her eye. She likes to open the box to take out the shapes. She has put the shapes back in and also some little finger puppets. She laughs when the finger puppets poke their faces out of the holes. When she opens it all the way the hinge catches nicely so it stays open. When you put down the lid there is a second catch so it never slams down on little fingers. It makes a satisfying noise and she laughs at the bang. And then does it again looking at me for my reaction. My toddler has been using it as a dinosaur boat. It is nice that it has a life outside just shape sorting. We had the lousy Melissa and Doug shape shorter for my first but it was really advanced play (so many similar shapes, bad box design) and recalled in Canada so I threw it away and found this one instead.

I got this for our son for his first birthday and he got two different shape sorters from friends... This is by far the favored one! So far he can only get the circle in the correct hole but it still holds his attention because he can lift the lid and throw the others in (makes a great sound!). It's easy to cary, has good colors, and the shapes are the perfect size for his little hands. That said, there is one down-side:*We have a little friend who has a sever allergy to latex (she's had three anaphylactic reactions and is not yet two). When I received this toy I read the included material from the company (Thank God!!), and noticed that it is made out of rubber wood (the trees natural latex is taken from). This toy would be DEADLY to our friend! We have to make sure it's put away in a closet when she comes over. I don't want to scare people out of buying this terrific toy (it has been great for my son), but I know how much trouble my friend has had to go through to eliminate latex from their home and I like to help where I can. Before they found out about her allergy I didn't even know latex came from trees, so I'm just trying to spread the word for other parents who are dealing with this allergy, latex is EVERYwhere! I hope this helps make the world safer for our friend!!*

My 17th month old child has really been enjoying this toy. Although at this stage she can only fit one of the pieces in the correct slot, she has lots of fun tossing the pieces in and dumping them out of the open roof. The brightly colored blocks are the perfect size for little hands, as is the "house" itself, which she proudly carries around by the handle. I've been impressed at how absorbed she is when playing with it -- when I come close, she waves me away so that she can work on figuring out the shapes herself. I think it will continue to engage her interest for quite some time.

Great fun for 9 month old. Solid construction, paint has not chipped on any pieces after several months of rough play. Hinges are fantastic, no worries about getting stuck or pinched.

I bought this shape sorter to replace a six sided sorting toy my daughter already had. This toy is far better for her -- there is no lid to fall off and the handle on top makes it easy for her to turn it around to find the correct hole. My daughter is 20 months and really loves this toy and plays with it happily. The other sorter we had just frustrated her. I recommend this as a good sturdy learning toy for your toddler!

I bought this toy for our daughter's first birthday. Now that she's 13-months old, I've seen her play with this toy quite a bit in one month. She can put the shapes through the holes if we show her where they go. But even more important to note is that she LOVES opening the roof and filling the house with shapes & then taking them all out, without using the holes. Filling containers is so much fun for younger toddlers, so they can enjoy this toy even before they are able to shape-sort proficiently. She fills the house with puzzle pieces, dolls, and anything she can fit in it. Then she grabs it by the handle & totes it around. I love that it's made with eco-friendly material and non-toxic paints. A big plus in my mind. And I get comments on it, because it's something you can't buy at Walmart, and no other kids have it. Very fun.

After researching lots of suggestions for my family as to what toys to get my daughter for her 1st birthday, I settled on this and a few others. I've become increasingly tired of plastic in our home that is coated with god-knows-what and breaks after 3 days of use. This toy is a wonderful, non-toxic learning game that the birthday girl and her 3 year old sister love. They have abused it greatly in the month since we got it, and there is no chipped paint or broken hinges. The toy looks like it will last forever, bringing generations of toddlers the satisfaction of matching the shapes to their intended slots before opening it up and dumping out the pieces to start over again. I cannot recommend this enough to not only the eco-conscious, but to everyone!

This is a wonderful toy! We purchased this for my one year old for his birthday and he immediately was drawn to it. At first he simply lifted the hinged roof and would take the shapes in and out. Then he figured out how to put the simpler shapes through the holes (circle, square, triangle). I only leave those shapes out and plan to introduce the more complex shapes after some time. This is a very durable, well constructed, absolutely darling toy! He likes to carry it around the house by its handle and put various objects in it. I can see him playing with this in different ways as he gets older.

I bought this sorter as a replacement for a Fisher Price one that we got as a gift, because I noticed my daughter loved to chew on the plastic. I didn't feel very good about that, so I got this one instead. At almost 9 months old, she loves it, and the shapes are just the right size for her chubby little hands to grasp. It's great that the little roof that opens doesn't pinch her when she slams it shut, and she likes to scrape her finger on the bottom of the house because it makes an interesting noise. She's chewed the pieces and so far, no paint has even come off (even though it's non-toxic). We also have the Wonderworld Peekaboo ball which was her very favorite first toy.

I love the wooden shape sorter, much cuter than the plastic toys. My daughter loves that the sides flip open so she can grab shapes easily. There are other toys that keep her attention longer, but overall a great buy!
