Hanni's work puts us back in touch with the humane path of love, imagination, and harmony with one another. --Leonardo Gómez, Director, Public Relations, Casa de la Cultura, OaxacaLeonardo Gómez, Director, Public Relations, Casa de la Cultura, Oaxaca
Masterfully told by Nancy Miller, this is the story of Hanni Sager, a disabled maker, collector, and lover of toys, who, in one of the poorest places in the Americas, finds a group of disabled children. Hanni teaches them to construct toys and thus makes them understand that as human beings, no matter what their disability, they can transcend their condition, help themselves, even others, and in the process achieve dignity and appreciation of their own worth and usefulness. Toys are the means whereby throughout our lives we are all able to create, love, and be free the most valuable forces urging us on to overcome the many obstacles we find in our way.
The toys designed by Hanni Sager are based on the cultural traditions of the children who make them. I have yet to find anyone not tempted to play with these beautiful objects when they touch them, a true sign of Hanni Sager's and the children's indomitable spirit.

Spanish for DummiesAt a time when parents are concerned about contaminated toys coming from China, it's nice to see a book that shows us how to have fun making our own: The Wondrous Toy Workshop reminds us of the pleasure we can take in our own creations. It also shows us a clear alternative to children doing dangerous work on the street. --David L. Parker, author of
