The definitive pediatric nursing textbook,
By A Customer
This review is from: Whaley & Wong's Nursing Care of Infants and Children (Book with CD-Rom for Windows & Macintosh) (Hardcover)
The 6th edition of this textbook is the best ever. Wong as usual provides the latest research with every topic covered. The color-coded chapters make it easy to use. The CD-ROM is very useful as a study aid and to view clips of nursing procedures. Highly recommended for nursing students and practicing pediatric nurses.

7th Edition worth its weight in gold,
This review is from: Whaley & Wong's Nursing Care of Infants and Children (Book with CD-Rom for Windows & Macintosh) (Hardcover)
Whaley and Wongs updated bible for paediatric nurses is essential reading now it has gone in to its seventh edition, Those who had the 1995 version will already be familiar with the fully comprehensive care plans and evidence based practice rigorously detailed within the book, but 2002's new edition not only updates knowledge but also improves clarity using excellent illustrations, and also includes an entire new chapter regarding community care- an issue at the forefront of modern nursing. This is a core text for all students and qualified nurses alike.

I have a hard time reading some books that are required in nursing school. However this book is exceptional! I loved this reader friendly textbook. It is very easy to understand. I wish more of my books were like this one. Thank you Donna Wong.

This is a classic textbook, and I've heard from many other nursing students at other universities that this is the text that they used, as well. Especially good if your prof touches on something and you want/need a fuller explanation. Make sure to get the study guide, though, as it will make all the difference in the world for exams and boards!!!!

Never has so much said so little,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wong's Nursing Care of Infants and Children (Book with CD) (Hardcover)
This thing is a beast! It's difficult to read - the space between lines is so short, you feel like you're reading the same line over and over. The material repeats itself quite often - so much that the book could use some editing. I guess the authors get paid by the word. As a nursing student in an ADN program with absolutely no interest in the field of Pediatric Nursing, I resented having to lug this turkey around. I'm sure it's treasured by pediatric nurses and educators world wide, but if you've got to buy it, get a used one or an older edition. No need in breaking your bank account and your back!

A valuable clinical nursing reference,
By
This review is from: Wong's Nursing Care of Infants and Children, 8e (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my wife who is a paediatric nurse. It was a prescribed textbook for the university and hospital based course. It is very comprehensive resource for the nursing professional who seeks to know all there is to know about their patients.
If there is one criticism (and it is a minor one) it is that this textbook is American-centric. Many of the measurements reflect this, and it would be nice if some of them included the metric equivalent. We have yet to utilise the CD that came with the book although judging by the contents (a list is included in the book as well as extensive "links"), it will be an oft-referenced item in our library.

Excellent Pediatric Text,

This review is from: Wong's Nursing Care of Infants and Children, 8e (Hardcover)
This thick text is up-to-date, thorough, challenging, and interesting. Graphics and call-out boxes are useful. I enjoy learning from this book. I recently studied the chapter on cardiac issues and found it easy to read and understand. I occasionally have to look up words, e.g., recrudescent, but that is a good thing. I don't find a lot of repetitive material or useless illustrations as in some other texts.
I will likely keep this book and continue to reference it after the class. Criticism: the CD "NCLEX" questions are very weak. I am relying more on other sources such as Mary Ann Hogan's NCLEX review book: Child Health Nursing. I wouldn't go without Wong, however. A few times, I have found some unclear writing and once what looked like a data dump into a graphic (describing research results and sources in a cluttered mess), but overall, the text is fantastic. Other notes: Saunders NCLEX review book has many of the same materials as Wong (I have both texts). |
