4.0 out of 5 stars Rapping on the dancefloor..., August 18, 2010

This review is from: Won't Go Quietly (Audio CD)
UK rapper Example (real name Elliot Gleave, initials E.G. hence the name) raps over Dance beats, and his sophomore album "Won't go quietly" has already hit number 4 in the UK with three hit singles. He appeared on fellow British rapper Professor Green's "Monster", but while lyrically Green touches on issues in his life (dealing drugs, death of loved ones, etc), Example rarely veers from girls and fun.

Opening is "From space" which starts off rocky electro and changes pace in the final minute. "Won't go quietly" is a Techno Dance song which is rather catchy, while "Watch the sun come up" is sublime with swirling synths with lyrics about a holiday romance ("I'm hardly a linguist, Spoke through kisses `cos you didn't speak English").

"Time machine" is produced by Calvin Harris and wouldn't sound out of place on a Dizzee Rascal album. He really shows off his British accent on the bouncy "Something in the water" , while the pulsing "Last ones standing" is surprisingly produced by Bjorn Yttling from Indie band Peter Bjorn and John.

"Millionaires" brings down the tempo, the upbeat Pop "Two hearts" has a woozy feel with Example doing more singing than rapping, the buzzing "Sick note" is produced by Chase and Status. Closing are a pair of ballads, the ghostly Tempo shifting Dub "See the sea", and the questioning "Won't believe the fools" with a lovely piano intro, guitars, and which once again finds him singing.

Interesting with varied moods and sounds, a great Example of British music.

Great cd. Good mix of techno, electronica with pop influence all set to the british influence. Example brings a good diversity to his tracks while infusing his own quirkiness.
