I bought GTA IV on release day and was extremely dissapointed after seeing all the stuff from San Andreas they removed in order to get it to fit on the tiny 8GB DVD's that the 360 is limited too. I wont be buying this game unless its exclusive to PS3 and/or PC (as these are the only platforms that can properly handle a true 7th gen game) UNLESS its on multiple DVD's for 360 (which I'm sure wont happen).
You have a great point and this is why I can't understand why 360 fanboys constantly bash the PS3 and claim the 360 is a better system when on paper and in reality it's the inferior console to the PS3. the PS3's blu rays can fit twice as much data on a single disc then the 360's DVD's. I really don't think I'll be buying any further GTA games. Hell I'm even hesitant to buy Saint's Row 3.
Plus, on top of that, the PS3 has a HDD standard on all consoles, so developers can use HDD space as well, while on the 360 HDD's are not standard so they are forced to make all games run without a HDD.
And I played Saints Row 3, its got some impriovements but they removed a bunch of stuff similar to GTA IV. Look it up, you cant even pick up random items and throw them or beat people with them anymore.
What the heck guys? How would it be fair to deny our fellow gamers an amazing game? Yes, the PS3 is more powerful, and yes Blu Ray is better, but there's no way it won't be on 360. Titles like this are always multi platform, and it was my understanding that we all understood and accepted this. Asking for it not to be on 360 is an extremely unreasonable request, in my opinion.
The 360 is RUINING video gaming this generation. That's not fair. Why should we have a crippled GTA because Microsoft chose to be greedy and not include a HDD standard or a high definition media format? Why is that gamers fault? We have to get a cut down video game because the 360 cant support anything better? That's extremely unreasonable.
I'm not saying it's the gamers fault. I agree that the 360 is dragging us down, and Micro$oft needs to get their crap together. But in the meantime, I don't think it's right to punish gamers who bought a 360, and who love GTA. Nothing's going to change right now, and I just think everyone should be able to enjoy GTA V (even if some of us get a watered down version.)
GTA was orignally published for the Playstation. When IV came out on the xbox I knew it was going to be crap. I waited on it until I got it on the Geatest hits deal for $20, that was a year or so ago and I still havent got that far into it, last I remember I was driving a taxi for the guys cousin (btw the driving is terrible in this game) the only plus to this game was that I could dress my guy in different clothes. The game needs to be like GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas all in one for it to be any good. Why would a game make developments and then not include them in the future titles. Rockstar is a solid group (with the exception of L.A. Noire <- fail). WE should expect the best from them, and if that means cutting out xbox as a supported platform then so be it. But if they do that, and we as consumers don't give them the profit margins they need, then of course they are going to water down the game to make it available on a lesser platform. Xbox fails, everyone knows it, some people are just too stupid to see it. point made
i believe back when the 360 was selling addon hd dvd drives for movies to compete with ps3 bluray (of course blu beat out hddvd) but xbox should of used those drives to there advantage in the market place. they were bigger capacity and could of built games on those discs and we as ps3 owners wouldnt have to suffer by having games made to the lowest dvd capacity. i think they might multi disc this game. they did it this year to battlefield 3 for xbox
you ppl are ignorant, they took nothing "away" from gta 4, if you look at games in general you will see that 9 out of 10 game series give up some game elements to improve on graphics, sometimes so far as to loose a good story line to have excellent visuals, look at the cod franchise, they went from sub par graphics and excellent playability and storys to excellent graphics and sub par gameplay and storylines.....and what about multiplatform games that come out for the wii? those games are totally different on the wii BECAUSE the wii cant handle anything the big boys can, so to say that xbox ruined ps3 games is one of the stupidest statements ive ever heard....FYI im a ps3 fanboy so no bias here
It does make a difference. Look at Demon Souls and Dark Souls. Demon souls was PS3 only, textures did not repeat. All wall and floor textures were unique. In Dark Souls, even though it came out later, I notice the same brick in the same spot every 4 virtual feet. Doesn't effect gameplay but takes away from the experience. DVD9 should not be in this generation of gaming.
They give up game elements to support graphics BECAUSE the 360 cant support both! If it were on PS3 only, they could include BOTH! The Wii isn't even to be considered, game companies know that the Wii is a joke, a childs toy, and don't even try to make anything good for it. The problem is the 360 is actually a major console and Microsoft would flip if their console got a cut down game while the PS3 got a good one. I'm not a fanboy, last generation it was the Xbox that was the best console, with the PS2 holding us back, but this gen its the Xbox 360 holding us back. DVD format is for SD gaming, not HD. GTA V is not capable of running on a 360 unless its either severely cut down or placed on multiple disks.
Microsoft know that the new system is glitchy and that don't want to test it so soon. while Sony made some games with the new system and the game didn't last more the 2h of game play. but since L.A noire GTA V will use the same engine for chars. and the vehicles are greater then ever so i don't think this one will go to 360 anytime soon.
Don't be too excited about it being a PS3 exclusive because it's not going to happen. I wish it was, but one of the best selling franchises ever isn't going to cut their sales in half by not selling it for xbox360. But don't worry. BF3 let PS3 owners get BF1943 for free (they didn't at first, but after a lawsuit they released it for free because they broke a promise). Dead Space 2 had a bonus game "Extraction" exclusive to the PS3 version. I'm not sure if these exclusives were related to how much a disc can hold, but either ways there's some hope.
People need to realise that GTA IV was R* first major open world game this gen. They were still getting use to the tech. Look at how much they improved with RDR. That was on the 360. I know I easily put in 150hrs+ into that game. Also anyone mentioning about how much LA Noir was a let down shoule know that R* only produced it, Team Bondi developed it. R* is an amazing developer. Alot of you need to take the fanboy goggles off. Before I get called 360 fanboy or something, I only bought two games for my 360 this year. I bought over 15 for my PS3.
Ah well, looks like you're not buying it. Real shame that you'll be missing out on it while everyone else is playing it. Hopefully, knock on wood, Rockstar does OK without your money. Good luck with the console war efforts, to all of you on both sides of the fence! Those of us who don't care about console exclusivity will be too busy enjoying quality titles while you suffer for the greater good.
Dont think I'll be missing out on anything, I learned my lesson after buying GTA IV. San Andreas was a great game, so naturally I thought GTA IV would be, but it was the biggest turd since GTA 2. It's clear they cannot fit a good GTA game on one 360 disk, so I will not waste my money on a crappy title when I can put it towards something fun to play. If Rockstar chooses to either make the game multidisk for 360, or just simply exclude the 360 all together, THEN I will buy it because then I know I'm getting a fun, quality title may actually be more fun than San Andreas!
Dylan C nailed it. I'm sure GTAV will be great on all platforms. And there are advantages and disadvantages to both. The Xbox has a better graphics card and is supposed to be easier to develop for. Most multiplat games show it. Well, MS barely has any exclusives anyway, but my point still stands... Xbox games often have less issues with texture pop and graphical errors, and developers can spend more time making a game and less time working out kinks in the special architechture.
Anyway, all of your logic is invalid. If we should get rid of the Xbox 360, then we should get rid of the PS3. They could easily make GTAV 2,3, and maybe even 5, or 10, times larger if it was a PC exclusive. Plus, competition is always good, as both companies must strive to be better and to do it for the lowest price. That's why we see these companies lose money on each console sold when they first release them.
So lay off the Xbox guys... Sure it's old and ready to retire, but it's really not that far behind the PS3, and it's not like the PS3 couldn't use an update, especially if it's in the form of an improved graphics card. All in all though, I think MS need to ditch the Xbox, and announce a new console at E3. And Sony do the same either this year or next, but maintain support for the PS3, as they did with the PS2.
PS3 only owner. I'd never own an Xbox because I wont pay a monthly service for something I can get free from the competition. Plus I love Sony's exclusives. Resistance, Uncharted, Infamous, Killzone, Demon's SOuls, God Of War, Heavy Rain, ICO & SOTC, LittleBig Planet, Metal Gear Solid, Motorstorm, Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, Ratchet and Clank, SOCOM, Twisted Metal, Valkyria Chronicles, Warhawk, Wipeout, Yakuza. Plus there are new IPs coming this year, Sorcery, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian. And these are just the AAA level games. There's also all of the great PSN games, Pixel Junk games, Flower, and all the great Housemarque games, Dead Nation, Superstardust HD.... need I go on??? Cause I can't really. That is most all of the best exclusives, but Halo Gears, and Forza could never cover for all of these great exclusives.
Anyway, despite this overwhelming disparity in the software available, I still think the Xbox has it's merits. Like I said, I'd never buy one, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to be a part of the industry. It has been a major player in this gen (good and bad), and there's no two ways about it. As far as I'm concerned, that is a good thing for the industry.
Maybe this perspective will alleviate some of your concerns: Red Dead Redemption is a multi-platform Rockstar game, and I don't feel like we missed out on anything there. In fact, RDR is the only game of this generation that I would call a masterpiece. I have faith in GTA V. Also, keep in mind these consoles were in toddler stages when GTA IV came out. Developers were still getting used to the hardware. RDR really was Rockstar's redemption (no pun intended) and it proves that they are capable of creating the GTA we are all longing for.
I agree with Ted. Take a look at how GTA3 -> VC -> SA evolved. Same hardware, way different experience. GTAV will be good in all platforms, I have no doubts....Rockstar has proven they learn from every game they create and they certainly include every single succesfull update or develop to the new game, no matter what series it is, we can find successfull elements from previous games in the newer ones
