4.0 out of 5 stars Nice cheap crossbow., October 21, 2009
This review is from: 150 Lbs Wood Crossbow with Scope and Pack of Metal Arrows (Misc.)
Great cheap crossbow for playing around or possibly hunting small animals. Wood stock is good quality and it doesn't feel cheaply made. 150 pounds will pack a punch too. Fit and finish were great, nylon washers can take some slop out of the foot stirrup. It will work loose over time. I also think the laser included on some models is not worth it. The scope is a cheaper model and a larger one can be fitted easily. (I prefer a larger diameter for light gathering.) I have the wood stock version that came with a scope and laser....save some money and get one without laser and scope if possible. Then buy a nicer scope and place nylon washers in the stirrup. Now you have something that can compete with the more expensive models. These are also seen with all metal stocks....not sure if that is a better one to get though. Just be careful if you get one of these: they are not legal in many states for hunting, they are more powerful than you think, you will need more arrows as you will loose, or break some. Use a very sturdy target and clear the area in case of ricochet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended but there are some flows, September 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 150 Lbs Wood Crossbow with Scope and Pack of Metal Arrows (Misc.)
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this crossbow. It is definitely leading item of such kind at amazon in terms of price/quality ratio. Doubtlessly, such brands as Horton or Barnett would offer you more, but they cost 5-6 times more. This crossbow can be successfully used for any sport or hunting activity and looks to be rather durable as well. In any case, if you are newbie, I definitely recommend it to be your first crossbow

---------------------------------------------------

It is 4 month since I have this crossbow, so I can give you some updates, which are not very positive ones:

first of all, I got problems with string, as threads started to disintegrate rather soon. String is combination of braided threads knotted at bow arms. In addition, I found very unpleasant problem, after each shot, knotted ends of the string started to "twist" around the bow arms, thus, changing position of the string. Initially, I had to correct the position of the string after each shot and it was not easy at all. Although I managed to fix this flow by putting two plastic tie bands at the points where string is attached to arms. But in any case, I ll need replacement string very soon (think they are cheap).

Please note, it is very difficult to cock this cross bow. You'll need quite a powerful effort and if you use it for prolonged period, while walking or doing any other physical activity, you soon feel, it becomes harder and harder to cock it (you are simply losing your muscle power to do it again and again)

I seriously doubt, that average female can cock it at all. Also, note that it is sensibly heavier than good expensive crossbows. This gives you feeling of well crafted piece, but the weight becomes a burden in a longer walks

Besides of all the above mentioned, I can still recommend it just for one simple reason - it's price. Good crossbows for real hunting cost 5-6 times more and I suspect they are 10-15 times better than this one, but if you are not ready to pay 600$ for good crossbow, than just buy this one. You will not regret. But, if you are in search of good hunting weapon, which is light, durable, precise and etc then you can confidently skip this one and you have to pay much more money

3.0 out of 5 stars Crossbow review, October 2, 2010
This review is from: 150 Lbs Wood Crossbow with Scope and Pack of Metal Arrows (Misc.)
I have had this crossbow for a while. I had two problems with it. The first one is the cheap serving material ( the wrap-around on the string that slides over the barrel)unravled and I ended up putting a new serving. After a couple hundred shots the arrow hold-down stamping broke at the rivet. I made a new one and managed to wedge it in place using a double sided thick tape since I was unable to drill out the old rivet. It worked fine and was better than the original. The trigger on this bow is horrible, extremely heavy and I had to develop a process to aim and feel the trigger as I am shooting. The arrows are cheap and you will need new ones if you want to use this bow for hunting. This is a powerful bow and I have used it to take several deer. A 20-inch 2219 arrow goes clear through a deer at 25 yards. I now shoot an Excaliber which is 5 times the cost so if you want to start cheap and learn about crossbows, this is not a bad bow overll.
