Britain's least known big league poet,
This review is from: From Wood to Ridge: Collected Poems in Gaelic and English (Hardcover)
I read the translation of this book and sorely wanted to learn Gaelic. You can see that the rythmn of the language is much better in the original, even if you do not understand what it means. Sorley must be the most underrated British poet of the 20th century, mainly because he wrote in Scots Gaelic. The translations are so good one wonders what the originals are like. Anyway, Sorley is one of the finest nature poets I have ever read.
