I didn't feel these guys first couple of singles.. but i decided that i'd give them a chance at least. So i popped it into my receiver and the bass broke my rear view mirror. it's crazy how creative the basslines are to these tracks. Like i said.. the first 2 singles, i don't care for.. but the rest of the cd is actually cool. Not much lyrical talent.. but that really doesnt matter anymore. The songs will catch ya ear. A lot of people have stopped me and asked me who i was listening to and didn't expect these guys to put out a hot cd either. It's definitely worth the money. :)

This album is SOLID. They have a similar style that was found on Outkast's debut. Though Outkast has moved on to a different style since then, it's nice to hear a new group bring back that same vibe. It's sad that this album is so underrated. However, with such a solid debut, I think real heads will take wind and eventually Da Back Wudz will get the shine that they deserve.

Wen i first heard backwudz first single u got to love me i thought this is a tight single by a new group but i was still sceptical. then they came out with i dont like the look of it wich is a tight song and very creative but like most new groups songs like these end up defining the group and place a gimic on them never alowing them 2 get ride of the title "the guys that sing the umpa lumpa song". then i went ahead and took a risk buying the cd. man what a good investment of 10 dollars. these guys are raping about things completly different then most atl rap right now. trap music the anoying snap music and crunck music. this is about issuies that everyone goes though preassurs to do wrong nagging girlfriends. this album reminds me of outkasts debut southernplayeristicadilacmusic. their flow is also very similar to outkasts. that fast dilivery and tag team type rap style.
the cd is produced mainly by milwaukee black with very interesting kanye west like beats. the intro 2 me is the best track. i dont like the look of it is a very creative song. "i got the beat from willy wonka and hattas mad cuss they canta". u got 2 love me like i said was the first single. nas and slim thug are on the remix witch is the outro. killer mike bohagen big gipp sleepy brown and george clinton also appear on the project. this is a great debut cd that shows a bright future for this duo. buy this album it is real good and u will not be dissapointed expecialy bc since they are new u should not be expecting much then u listen 2 them and are shock at how talented they are.

When I picked up this album I expected another Lil Jon-esque ATL album. However, I was pleasently surprised. They can, if they become a bit less comercial, become like oodie Mobb/Outkast. Their best song is easily "Feeling Lonely".

I went to Target to look for a new cd, and I bought da back wudz, based on "you gon love me" Me and my friend had been playin' it since '04. At first, I didn't like it. I was like what is this. But I gave it a chance and I listened to it again and its one of my fav albums right now.
I like every song just about. Weaker tracks would be "Fantastic" (the whole pimp thing is played out) and "I'll Do" (they sound like Nelly on the chorus) but I loooooove "What you know about my life" and "You gon love me (remix) " Overall you will not waste ur money, I just wish Rowdy would have promoted it better. I had no idea that it was out, until I saw it at the store. Very reminecent of an earlier Outkast...love it!

I'll have to admit that at first, it seems like several reviewers of this, I wasn't too excited about getting this album. Although I heard 2 singles, "You're Gonna Love Me" and "I Don't Like the Look of It" and enjoyed them both to a degree, they really didn't seem all that special. I just thought i'd end up listening to those 2 songs and skip through the rest of the album. To my surprise though, on my first listen I loved pretty much every song. There's definitely more good songs than just the first 2 singles and the rest of the album is actually even better. The best track in my opinion would have to be "Fantastic" and what a fitting name for the track because it is just that. If you're like me you liked the two pre-mentioned tracks and were speculating on whether or not you really want this album, worrying that these guys were just gonna be a one hit wonder. Hopefully my worries won't come true, and these guys still just end up becoming no names after this album because if they can keep up these kind of hits, they'll become heavyweights in this industry before they know it. Overall, a very surprisingly good album and well worth your money. Don't sleep on this one. 4.5/5 Stars

Very, Very Promising,

I recently purchased "Wood Work" by hip-hop newbies Da Backwudz. I was introduced to them on an interview featurette on a local music channel, and was somewhat interested because the duo came out of the south and the snippets of music I heard reminded me vaguely of Outkast (whom I love). Da Backwudz remained on my peripheral music radar for a while, but never really surfaced as a huge hit like I had thought they would. They are not quite "big" yet. However, months later I heard their second (?) single, "I Don't Like The Look of It (Oompa)" and really liked it due to its creative Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) sampling and clever beat. A friend of mine subsequently played me their first (?) single, "You Gonna Luv Me". I really dug the beat on that one. When searching for music online I discovered that their album had just come out the day before and I went out and bought it on a whim (along with the new Eagles of Death Metal- Death By Sexy; look for a review coming soon). "Wood Work", to my surprise, is a very solid album. Towards the middle of the album the boys start to fall into a cliched, formulaic track-by-track cookie cutter "rap" formula, with the love song ("The World Could Be Yours"), the "mama" song "Mama Always Told Me", and an overtly sexual song "I'll Do" (the worst cut on the album). However, the beginning and end of the album is very solid. "Welcome 2 Da Backwudz" is an eclectic opener, "You Gunna Luv Me" and "I Don't Like the Look of It" are strong, representative singles, and "Feelin' Lonely" is strong lyrically. Other highlights include "Making Money Counting Hundred", "Whatcha Know 'Bout My Life", "Lock N Load", "Wood Grain- Interlude", Da Backwudz mission statement of sorts, and the remix of "You Gonna Luv Me", featuring Nas and Slim Thug. My favorite track, perhaps, is "Smoke N Ride", a funky homage to smokin good featuring the Godfather of Funk himself, George Clinton. In short, this is a worthy purchase. It has around 9-10 solid tracks, is not hampered by interludes or weighed down by too much starpower collaborations, smacks heavily of early Outkast (Atliens-Aquemini era), and shows tremendous promise. Solid album; 3.75 stars.

I like da backwudz' style of incorporating some real heartfelt stuff along with their upbeat songs like your gonna love me. The beats are good. the lyrics are catchy. A few of the good ones are whatcha know bout my life, your gonna love me, makin money countin hundreds, and the world could be yours. A few of the songs I thought could have been left out. I personally dont like the look of "i dont like the look of it." The remix is way better. Anyways I like da bakwudz and woodwork was a worthy investment. overall its a good diverse album that illustrates the down home southern style of these rappers.
