The patterns are easy to use, and the variety make it easy to choose something easy or more difficult to work on. I have already carved the little short man in a hat and enjoyed every step. He looks pretty good for someone carving for fun and enjoyment.Fly with the Mourning Dove

Well photographed, good clear pictorial step-by-step instructions. Good for the beginner carver as practice/development exercises - but represents the "same ol" static figures making fun of "hill-billies"

I love this book. This is exactly the kind of woodcarving I enjoy and these characters are amazing. Beginning carvers should know that only one character is step by step, but those steps work well with all of the others. Fantastic flat plane carving projects.
