From Library Journal
The eight projects for beginning and intermediate carvers range from a low-relief rose plaque to a fully three-dimensional duck decoy and include a sea-motif mirror frame, a game board, and decorative wall pieces. Hand-lettered directions are accompanied by numerous line drawings. One wishes that a few photographs showing hands guiding the carving tools had been included. There is introductory material on gluing, making a compass to use in layout, and a carving knife designed by McCarthy, but the authors note that basic information on carving tools, woods, and finishes is included in their earlier book (1983).
