This review is from: The Woodcut in Fifteenth-Century Europe (Studies in the History of Art Series) (Hardcover)
This book is a record of proceedings of a symposium held in the National Gallery of Art in 2005. As such it would be primarily aimed at experts in this field of study. For such a person the book should have a 5 star rating. As a non expert I found much of the text technical and a bit of a struggle to digest. The main compensation for me was the liberal quantity of interesting and attractive illustrations of various woodcuts, illuminated manuscripts, paintings etc. This print quality of this book is very high as are the photographic illustrations. This is primarily a specialist publication. |
