Book Description

A distraught woman stumbles out of the rain into the shabby office of a Private Investigator. How could she leave her cottage in Suffolk earlier in the day and find herself in downtown USA?

Meet “the name’s on the door” PI, the hardboiled Gumshoe with a sappy heart who is prepared to take on a case where a baby has seemingly turned into wood. His clients may all enter through the door, but they usually leave with him through one of the many exits he has discovered since he took over the business. Move over Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe. Make way for … Now what is his name?

A story with saving laughters and unusual babies.

Graham writes fiction. Mostly dragons and parallel worlds. There’s also this detective with a coat made of cosmic string, but he’s just weird.

4.0 out of 5 stars A private investigator with an amazing coat February 7, 2012

He's not the usual private eye. He's shrewd, funny, a gentleman. He even owns a multi-dimensional coat which can be turned over to be every kind of cloth or material you can imagine (and even those you can't). What was his name?

A desperate woman appears one day knocking on his door, looking for help since her baby has been turned into wood. Our hero knows exactly what to do about it: it'll involve a gun, a map, his knowledge about faerie matters, his coat and a joke.

Graham Edwards' prose is relaxed and entertaining. 'The Wooden Baby' is a perfect way to start The String City Mysteries series and to get to know that endearing character, what was his name again?
