Great idea and its well made, attractive and affordable. I was going to get one of those open incense holders. Glad I didn't since I usually have a ceiling fan running. What really made the purchase worth it was the 2 sampler sticks. They didn't have a name on them, just said they were the kind burned in Indian Temples. A quick email to Tom's Incense and a fast reply from Tom who said that it was India Temple Incense - Song of India - 50 Stick Medium Box. That is the most incredible incense I have ever smelled. Nothing like what you think incense smells like. So just for finding my new favorite incense was worth it. There is just one thing. Watch your fingers when opening the box, I wasn't paying attention and pinched my finger.

This incense burner is so "classy" looking. I love it. It's solid wood and the little compartment to store incense in is so handy. I love that I just close the lid while the incense is burning and I don't have to worry about anything getting caught up in the burning incense that might potentially cause a fire. I've had my box for years and it still looks new. Very well crafted. Would even make an awesome gift.

This is an outstanding burner, handcrafted, and can burn incense with wooden ends, or the type by morning star that is all incense. It can burn cones as well, as their are 2 brass inlays inside to set them upon. The bottom has a hidden compartment that will store easily 25 sticks. It is larger than it looks, made of wood, and I thought would have cost more. Egiftop a third party seller from Amazon has this, and I mention them because this is where I purchased mine. Shipping brings the price up. but is was shipped to me UPS and I had it in 2 days. These people are customer oriented. They do not fool around. You write if there is any issue and it was immediately taken care of with follow-up. An outstanding burner for the price that can burn short, long and cone incense, and an excellent company

I received mine yesterday (12/3/10). Packaging was normal. It was wrapped in a very heavy piece of paper secured with a rubber band, then stuffed into a cardboard box with the usual air pillows.
However, upon unwrapping it and inspecting, I did notice some problems. For one, the joints on the lid seemed to have come apart, resulting in that only half of the lid was on the hinge. The other half kinda just flopped around. Secondly, one of the side joints had also come loose, right above the "secret compartment". The damage wasn't so severe that it was beyond repairing. Just a little wood glue and clamping overnight, and it was good to go. Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase. I shouldn't have had to fix a brand new product, but it was so inexpensive I was willing to overlook the slight trouble.

It's beautiful and classic.
If you burn at least 2 incense a week you might wanna get this instead of that cheap looking one from Walmart. When I receive the Burner I was amazed my the exotic designs and ability to burn incense and not make a single mess. This makes your room richer and the transform the boring incense smoke into culinary delight for your eye and your nose. My friend said that it doesn't look that strong... unless you are gonna play football with this fragile thing I don't think you have to worry about that.

First off the wood itself smelled bad but I could have let that go since the incense would cover that sooner or later. The finish was scuffed horribly and it was either poorly made or damaged before it was sent out. It was shipped with other items and none of them were hard enough to damage the wooden box during shipment and the scratching was in mostly specific places. I know it was cheap at $8 but the picture they show was of one in much better shape. Maybe you'll get one that looks perfect.....if so then it would be worth it.

The stick is kind of hard to get in the hole and you can't shut it or the stick or cones will go out. The storage area is a good idea, but I have to tip it over to get them out. The cones go out when I shut the top which is why I wanted this. Oh well when it stays open it works great!

When I opened the package, I thought the burner was damaged during the shipping. All joints are so loose. Metal plates connecting two pieces of woods are bent. But later I found that it is the woodworking itself. The cover and box simply do not match. There is a huge gap between cover and box no matter how you adjust them. All the holes through the cover are done poorly. There are a lot of wooden barbs on inner surface of holes. One metal moon inlaid on wooden surface is about to drop off. The hole supposed to hold the incense is almost blocked by something look like dried glue. I'm quite confident that I can make a wooden box better than what I receive, although I don't have woodworking training at all. Never buy this product.

This is my second incense burner and i don't think i'll needing another one after this. It's awesome!!! Unlike my first one, it catches ALL ashes. It's perfect for holding my incense (a surprising amount fit in there) and it's easy to put in a back to travel with.

doesn't hold incense properly,

like some other reviewers here, i find that this thing does not hold incense properly. i'm not sure how this can't be a problem for every single person using it, but apparently some people are happy with it.
the problem is that the small holes drilled into each end where you stick the incense are drilled horizontally rather than at a downward angle. since the holes are obviously of a certain diameter, if you put incense in them that is too thin (all the kinds I tried), then the tips of the sticks just sag onto the wood. i suppose they might burn like that, but i didn't try as it seems a fire hazard that i don't want to worry about. some people report they simply go out. instead, what i did was to push a toothpick into the hole from the other side. this squeezed the stick in tight enough to lift it into the air. i was able to use it like this, but it involves too much work for something so trivial. so bottom line is that i'm buying another type. if i get some time, i might also try drilling new holes that are at an angle. the case itself is nice enough and if the holes were properly drilled, then i would be a lovely thing to use. UPDATE: i did drill new holes at an upward angle. makes a big difference! much more workable now. trick is to drill at the correct angle. too much angle and the sticks point too high (meaning you can't close the box anymore while they are burning). i also drilled holes so they don't go all the way through the wood. this is also an improvement as it makes sticks more stable. this is how the boxes ought to be made, imo. |
