Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Good old-fashioned desserts from the author of The Wooden Spoon Bread Book ( LJ 8/87). Some of these recipes are from old cookbooks, some from the author's childhood, others from treasured family collections. Moore also includes a clear, authoritative introduction on ingredients and techniques. Both cooks who grew up with these desserts and those who are discovering them for the first time will appreciate Moore's latest book.

You have to try these recipes to believe the cover claim - "the best you ever ate". The results are far superior to all others of the same type that I've tried. This is the only dessert book you'll ever need! Every scrumptious recipe is a winner. Try it, you'll love it! Trust Amazon to offer only the best!

I've made many recipes from this book and they've all been good, which you can't say for most cookbooks. Most recently the Glazed Strawberry Pie won me fervent compliments from everyone who tasted it. "Wooden Spoon" is worth owning just for the Caramel Cake recipe (it's like crack, only delicious), but there are plenty more that are also worth having ready to hand when you want to make something sweet and satisfying.

One of the few cookbooks that warrants a coveted spot on the kitchen shelf as opposed to being relegated to the bookcase in the spare room with the other infrequently used cookbooks.

My copy falls open to the mile-high lemon meringue pie, and I bet yours will too.

It is the best dessert cookbook I have ever come across. I'm buying another copy for my daughter. The recipes are simple and tasty. They remind me of Magnolia Bakery in New York City.
