Book Description

January 18, 2000
The charming town of Glenbrooke, Oregon, welcomes readers once more to delight in a contemporary love story. In this all-new offering in the heartwarming Glenbrooke series, bestselling author Robin Jones Gunn's characters get two lessons on love: it's not based on performance and its motives must be pure. When Leah Hudson, the "ugly duckling" among beautiful sisters, meets mysterious newcomer Seth Edwards, she thinks someone could love her after all. Their friendship grows, but Seth has things he must work through before he can open himself to anyone. An unexpected inheritance serves to complicate matters that strike to the core of Seth's and Leah's hearts and faith.

Leah Hudson loves to give. But when others want to give back? Well, that’s another story entirely!

After years of pouring herself out for others, Leah, an average twenty-seven-year-old woman, finally finds herself receiving. She has her own cottage in Glenbrooke, wonderful friends, a great job at the hospital, and the attention of Seth Edwards, the new guy in town. She even wins a cruise to Alaska when she accidentally dials the number of a radio station!

So why can’t Leah relax and enjoy this new season of her life?

When an inheritance of fifty acres of prime Oregon woodlands is left to her—with a certain condition attached—Glenbrooke’s town lawyer, Collin Radcliffe, prompts Leah to question Seth’s motives for his interest in her. Only by turning her affections in a new direction will Leah be able to hear the true song of this springtime of her life.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Woodlands revives and continues Gunn's popular "Glenbrooke" series (the first six novels have just been released in new paperback editions). The novel finds Leah Hudson, the town's best buddy, taking notice of newcomer Seth Edwards, the nephew of one of her senior citizen friends. But Leah suffers from low self-esteem: after all, her father had wanted a son; her older sister tells her she'll never find a man with her plain face and muscular body; and she's "just Leah," named for the wife Jacob didn't want, either. Seth seems to be Leah's Prince Charming--handsome, interested, and Christian--but his evasiveness when asked personal questions makes Leah uneasy. While the give and take of their new relationship progresses realistically, romance readers will recognize the familiar plot devices; series fans will enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can I move to Glenbrooke?, February 28, 2000
This review is from: Woodlands (Glenbrooke, Book 7) (Paperback)
I began reading this series as a lark, just a quick something to occupy my time. I fell in love with Glenbrooke. Everone knows you and there is a warmth and kinship that is hard to reproduce in real life. Leah and Seth are wonderful people. I love how Ms Gunn always makes certain that the characters do some soul searching before making commitments. A pleasant old-time romance, this book (and the others in the series) are great for a relaxing, touching read.

In "Woodlands," Robin Jones Gunn adds a seventh book to the Glenbrooke series, creating another captivating plot with a charming heroine. Readers will not only meet new characters, but catch a glimpse of some old friends as well, and an old mystery is solved along the way. The beauty of this book is that can stand alone, although first-time readers of Robin Jones Gunn may want to start with "Secrets" and read through the series in the order in which it was written. Enjoy the read, because this is a book well worth buying!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite in the series!, November 17, 2003

I thought this was the best book in her series because Leah seemed so much like so many people I know. She was such a giving, loving person-beautiful inside and out, but did not feel like she was. So when she meets a wonderful man and he sees her beauty it is so sweet. She had so many negative voices from her childhood, especially the ones referring to her name, to overcome to accept love that it was an inspiration to me.
