Our wooden bird feeder was destroyed by years of weather and one huge squirrel so I bought this feeder to replace it. I liked the fact that it was made from recycled plastic and has the suet holders on the sides. We are enjoying watching the birds again and this feeder is great.

Right now I am looking out the window at the two-week-old bird feeder. There are two white-winged doves eating and two more sitting on the roof. There are about ten birds on the ground including a wren and a mourning dove. Some birds scatter the seed from a platform feeder so there are always plenty eating from the ground. The wrens and the sparrows usually prefer the Brome Squirrel Buster hanging from a tree limb in the backgound but occassionally wil use this feeder. This feeder is hanging from a shepherd's crook and the squirrels can easily climb that and get to the feeder, however, the exposed portion of the platform is too narrow for them to get a good grip. The other day one squirrel tried jumping to the roof and hanging down to eat out of the tray. After a very short time, he gave that up and went down to the ground to eat seed more comfortably there. I am sure the faux wood of the feeder wil maintain a good appearance for as long as the plastic lasts. I know the plastic becomes brittle under extreme heat and that is what we usually have in my area. Time will tell. In the meantime I appreciate this feeder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great purchase!, January 11, 2009

I'm completely pleased with this item- made in USA, "green" from recycled materials; a nice upgrade from the wooden one I had to replace after it fell to its death during a refill. The shipping was much faster than the Amazon estimate from this seller. I would recommend to anyone!

I bought this as a gift for my mom for Christmas and I wanted to get something that would last. She loved it. It is all screwed construction. Easy to hang and holds just enough seed. I would purchase again.
