I had the same problem that a lot of people have had with the unit resetting itself. A replacement one did the same thing. My husband worked in electronics and noticed that it reset when turning the controlled appliance off. Thinking the device might be sensitive to the electrical noise of the appliance shutting off, he placed a surge protector between the timer and the appliance and the problem was gone. Just a matter of poor research and development.

Actually, I like the device and would have gave it a 5 otherwise.

I received one of these timers (50009) as a warranty replacement for a similar model that quit. Right out of the box, this new timer also malfunctioned. Similar to many other reviews, when the timer shuts off the controlled appliance, it erases all the time/date programs and resets itself. I called the manufacturer and spoke to their customer service rep (Vicki (847) 672-2300) who initially said this was the first time they had ever heard of this problem. When I explained that there are several reviewers on Amazon complaining of the same issue with this same timer, she put me on hold while she spoke to her colleagues. When she returned she said certain areas of the country have a power problem (noise) that could cause the timer to reset itself, and suggested I try using a surge protector - as one of the other reviewers on Amazon mentioned. Alternately sometimes the product you are trying to switch on and off can, generate noise, which could also cause the timer to reset. Since both of these potential problems are beyond their control, she wouldn't refund the purchase price of the original timer, or replace the replacement timer - which was now 2 days old. Her logic was that their policy is "no refunds" and since their position is that the malfunction is caused by either noisy power to the timer or a noisy appliance being switched, replacing the timer won't help. Therefore, under the circumstances there is nothing they can or will do. Quite frankly, I am flabbergasted that such a large company would take such a ridiculous position on an an issue that is clearly a design problem - but I guess all I can do is to warn others to avoid this timer and to be aware of the manufacturer's creative excuses for why they are not responsible when their product doesn't work. Fortunately the timer was inexpensive so it's not a huge loss to simply put it in the trash - but Coleman Cable (Woods) has lost at least 1 potential customer for all their proudcts.

This timer does not work because it randomly resets itself, losing all settings, time, and programming. It reset when I plugged it in randomly, it reset when it was supposed to toggle on via timer schedule, completely unreliable and thus useless. Even that aside, the product wasn't easy to program (for example, to get to :45, you'd have to press the button 45 times; no option to press and hold and let it scroll through faster). I had to return it and exchanged it for the digital timer by Hydrofarm, which is much, much better. Thank you Amazon for making the exchange process painless and not cost any extra. Summary: Do not purchase this product. I saw the negative reviews here and ignored them. Don't make the same mistake.

This item changes the daily time, I called the the manufactor and they stated they have never heard of this doing that. But reading the other reviews I should have read the reviews before purchase. The unit will be thrown away, it will cost more to Return than what it is worth. I recommend do not buy.

I got the 50009 heavy duty timer after having success with its lighter duty brother, the 50008. The major differences are that this one has two grounded outlets (switched together, not independently programmable) and it will handle a larger load like a space heater. 15 Amps is a lot of power handling for a wall timer.

There appear to be many bad reviews here on this model, but I have had absolutely no problem with mine at all in six months of continuous operation. It has never lost its program, never reset on its own, never went crazy, none of the problems that others have allegedly had. I promise that if it does, I will update my review, but until then I have only positive results to share.

I like the physical design of this as much as anything. Many other electric timers are outlet hogs, they only use one receptacle but block the other one either with their case or the plug of your controlled device when it is plugged in. Not so with these 5000(7-8-9) models. They are not hard to program, and they have a built-in backup battery that keeps the time and programming (for days, I tested this myself) without primary power.

The 50009 has versatility in programming that allows multiple different start/stop times based on the day of the week. That lets me have a different schedule for the weekend. That and the ability to have multiple intervals in a day is why I selected it. I like the versatility. I like this timer.

The timer worked for a few days and now it wont keep time or turn on and off unless you do it manually I bought this newer model cause I had 2 of the old model of this timer and those both did this exact same thing! My caution to you I know a digital timer is attractive but really this is a waste of money Ive tried 3 now from this company all 3 junk!
