5.0 out of 5 stars Really great value
I got these as a gift for a friend and was surprised at how beautiful they were. I guess I was expecting a smaller set of chimes, but they really are a nice, full size and have a beautiful, clear sound. The shape is lovely, and a nice change from the traditional windchime hang. I was very pleased with these and would buy them again.

2.0 out of 5 stars chime for major wind
This is a beautiful sounding chime. It is not loud and sounds almost like tinkling glass.
Here's the catch: need major wind to have it work. We moved it to a number of places which were open to the wind. When you hang it by its cord, the entire chime moves in circles. Nice circular movement, but no chime. The idea is for the metal rods to move, which chime, not...

I have two Woodstock chimes and the quality is great. The sound these chimes makes is even better. Don't get cheap chimes. You cheat your ears and soul. These chimes do have a unique shape and size, a lttle small but still substantial.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soothing Sounds, October 20, 2001

I only wish that I had more wind. This chime makes wonderful music. If you like hearing beautiful sounds when the wind blows you will love this! Not to mention the price is very resonable, most chimes in stores are much more expensive, and not as nice for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks like music, June 14, 2007

This is a gorgeous windchime. The sound is like the tinkling of bells, but very complex and melodious. I bought this mainly for the visual beauty, since I wanted to hang it close to the street in my front yard. I also wanted something more durable than bamboo or brass. I have not been disappointed - this is definitely not cheaply made or packaged.

I was very surprised by the one extremely negative review below. I will say that the windchime is not as large as the description makes it sound. The wooden crosspiece is about 10" long. When hanging, the chime itself is about 13" from the top of the slanted crosspiece to the bottom of the longest chime. The 17" measurement is from the top of the hanging loop. Also, this is not one of those windchimes with a hanging clapper. It does take a good gust of wind to make it chime. That could be another advantage, though, if you want something that isn't ringing constantly day and night. It's worth it when it does chime, and even when it's silent, it just looks like music.

The idea is for the metal rods to move, which chime, not necessarily the wood holder. As we live in an area where there wind is the norm; we thought this would be a nice addition outside of our kitchen window, but after watching it spin around and not chime, its a disappointment.
If the string attached to the top of the wood were sturdier/thicker, it might limit the movement of the wood and let the wind move the chimes.

I bought one, and enjoyed it so much that I ordered two more for gifts. They have a "magical", fairy-like, delicate sound. Very peaceful and sweet. I also like the story that accompanies them, about their origin and how they are made.

We have bought three Woodstock chimes recently and the quality is excellent. The sound these chimes make is wonderful! We have bought other mfg's chimes, but this mfg knows what they are doing. These chimes do have a unique shape and size, a smaller set but still very substantial.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emperor Harp Windchime, March 13, 2006

This was bought for a gift, but I had to take it out and give it a "ring" even though it was probably not the same as hanging it in the wind. I found it had a beautiful sound and seemed to be well made, much more so than others in this price range. The recipient of my gift was very happy with it.

I hung these chimes near our hammock and swing. They sound very sweet. It only takes a light breeze to hear the beautiful sound.
