This review is from: Woodstream #9325 2.5M NAT Lawn Fertilizer
Having purchased our first home, my wife and I have been learning the ins and outs of home ownership. This happens to be the first time we have to care for the lawn as well. Doing quite a bit of reading on the internet about techniques for mowing, watering, and fertilizing, we made the conscious decision to go all natural. We have two beagles that love to follow their nose and if there is something edible, they will consume it no matter what it rests on. This said, I wasn't risking their health with synthetic alternatives.
With all of the research I did, I decided to do a soil test. While the soil was semi-deficient in some areas, it wasn't terrible. It did, however, need help in the organic matter department (which this does). This product came upon a recommendation by the author over at RichSoil.com (great info there, BTW). I did some more research before buying and seemed to be praised by many. While it added the three necessary components of a fertilizer, it did so in a slow-release, natural method while adding organic matter in the process. I applied as recommended for "normal lawns", but didn't pay enough attention to the watering recommendations (keep moist for first 3-4 days). We have been battling a severe drought in Texas and temps over 100* for everyday this summer; Lawn Restore never burnt one spot. Once I increased my watering to twice a week (watering deeply), the lawn started to take off, especially newer seeds I had overseeded with a few months earlier. The thickness greatly increased, greens got richer, and weeds started to diminish a bit. Best of all, dogs are doing great. As you will find with research, if you want to go for a natural, organic lawn care regimen, it will take time and effort. I tried a synthetic nitrogen fertilizer when I moved in and it greened the lawn up in a day, the effect was gone in a couple of weeks. I could tell the effects with Ringer's Lawn Restore were more gradual, yet more sustained (think of the tortoise and the hare). I will continue mowing high, watering deeply and infrequently, adding organic material on top of my lawn at recommended intervals, and fertilizing when recommended with Ringer's Lawn Restore. The weeds will take time to fully get rid of, but be confident you are building a eco-friendly foundation for your turf and for the well being of your family, pets, and neighbors. Be patient, educate yourself, and use this product as recommended on the packaging and you, too, will be on your way to a thick, lush turf.
