I just finished installing the hardware on my square, oak coffee table. Installation was fairly easy. Advance preparation included installing a 1/4 inch plywood sheet on the bottom of the table top to strengthen the top and adding 2 oak boards to the superstructure of the table for the hardware to attach to. My only comment is that since the manufacturer tells you exactly what ten screws to buy, why not include them and charge a bit more? Other than that I am very pleased.

The hinges did not work well and they needed to be fixed too. One hinge threw further than the other so when opened it looked horribly crooked

My parents have a pre-made one of these tables (around $200). I bought a used coffee table for $25 during a holiday special at Salvation Army and this bracket for $40. I was sure this bracket was going to be junk. The price is just too low, but my $65 coffee table works the same as my parents. It's a good buy, but it's up to you to make sure that you install it, not only correctly, but also so it won't break apart after years of continual use. A counter balance may be necessary to mount on the bottom of the table (not the bottom of the table top) so when it is in the up position it won't tip over. The function of this device is not kid friendly though (store bought table or one made with this bracket). Their little fingers will definitely be broken.

My daughter gave me a solid cedar chest. The chest was in terrible shape. It was made of solid cedar boards. My husband and I went to work on the chest, sanding off all the paint, varnish, etc. Lord only knows what was on the outside. Our sandpaper got all plugged up with the stuff we were trying to take off. What a job.

Today the cedar chest is absolutely beautiful. We ordered the Folding Table Hardware, Coffee Table Top hinges so the top would lift up completely. Did not even know the name of the hinges. A fellow told us to look up "Z-hinges" and we found them at Woodtek. The finished job is marvelous and the chest sits in the middle of the living room in front of the sofa. We are so proud of the finished product.

While they seems to work well they do not come with instructions or any guidelines to installation at all (you even have to go online and search for the size of screws to use). Installation is a pain because you have to have them open to screw in the top screws, and all they would have had to do is put 2 more holes per lifter to make it suer simple. As it is it's a pain to get squared. They also don't mention how far apart they can be. I tried to place them one the sides of my coffe table and it is super wobbly when it raises and lowers, much more than I was imagining, so now I have to remount them closer together and fixed the holes I drilled on the table.

Overall it works but as for installation your are completely on your own.

I bought a second pair so I'd say they satisfy the need. The only thing I can see wrong is they need to be a little stronger laterally. I am afraid that someday they will get bent from and accidental sideways push while in the extended position. Easy to install and use.

This piece of hardware was a $50 dollar part where all competing parts were $200 at the time. It did not come with the screws or directions on the best mounting methods, however, with a bit of tinkering I converted a chest into a decent extending coffee table.
