5.0 out of 5 stars A great aid for teaching children, September 1, 2000
This review is from: Woodworking with Your Kids: Over 30 Projects for All Ages (Paperback)
This book helps you teach your children about woodworking. Inside are some 30 projects. There are no plans in this book, but instead the book teaches the actual techniques needed in real woodworking. As such, the book suggests a project, describes how to make the item, and then shows some of the various items created by actual children. All of these projects rely on hand-powered tools that are safe for children to work with.

This is a great book! At first I checked it out from the library, but it is so good that I just had to have a copy for myself. I was glad to see that the many photos in this book show both boys and girls doing the projects, as I have both a son and a daughter.

I recommend this book absolutely!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to sharing your hobby, July 9, 2011

This review is from: Woodworking with Your Kids: Over 30 Projects for All Ages (Paperback)
Richard Starr was given an amazing opportunity. He was asked to create a wood working program for a public school system, starting from nothing. What he wasn't given was a budget or any existing infrastructure. That gave him the freedom to put all his ingenuity to work, building a program that would have children as young as five building toys, and young women in the eighth grade building elegant furniture starting from the raw log.

The book doesn't assume that you come to it with any woodworking knowledge, but will teach you the basics. For those willing to follow it through, it will go all the way to having you build some excellent wood working equipment to do your teaching on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good basic knowledge, November 19, 2010

This review is from: Woodworking With Kids (Hardcover)
I was looking for something a bit more simple and economical for my Webelos scouts- I was hoping for coping saw stuff and smaller projects (even though it shows a second grader making his projects). Nevertheless, we'll give it a go. I don't have many of the tools illustrated. I especially like the 50 page section "Tools & Techniques". I purchased a used first printing ('82) and the layout of the book looks a bit dated, but the author certainly knows his stuff. I am NOT disappointed with the purchase (and I will keep searching for "coping saw stuff and smaller projects").
