These recordings are all excellent with great sound quality. Even though alot of the songs on this disc have been released on the asch recordings 4 disc set, they are different versions....for example, the opening song "Hard Travelin" has been released a few different times but this version has Cisco Houston helping out and singing back-up.For me, the Songs "Will You Miss Me', "Brown Eyes", and "John Henry" are reason enough to own this album.

Unlike some of the Woody Guthrie CD releases by Smithsonian Folkways, the recordings here have not been polished up significantly. The noise and natural wax/vinyl hiss might be distracting at first, but it's worth getting over because this is an excellent collection of performances. Definitely *one of* my favorite Guthrie albums, in fact. Catchy tunes, clever lyrics, talented guest performers...this is one of his best.

woody guthrie was all kinds of things, many visions, many tales, many stories and one man. along with sonny and lead belly an such this makes one helluva album. buy it steal it download it upload it an listen to it. simple as can be. you can hear america in these songs an if you want REAL music get a REAL album. marlborobob.
