Book Description

There is a legend in their past of an uprising, a war they have learned about, but have learned nothing from.

Nobody knows what went wrong. Nobody talks about what happened. Such are the silo taboos.

Now, nearly two hundred years later, the people of the Silo will get a chance to learn more about that distant uprising.

They'll get to start one of their own...

After reading Wool 1 and 2, I felt the suspense and mystery building, but both left me hungering for some action. They were great, but kept leaving my wondering what was real and not. But the important thing is I FELT. I sensed the hopelessness and monotony of lives lived inside a small locked community for hundreds of years, and wished the inevitable revolution would come soon. The author dragged me into the story and made me want more. There were parts that I had to push through. Descriptions of the lives of each tier of society living in the "Silo" was obviously dire in making the reader invest emotion for each in some way. But at times my mind went numb, and I had to re-read passages.
Then Wool 3 and 4 started in on the action, and fulfilled my desire for revolution against tyranny. Mix in some faithful friends and a little romance, and the universe is complete.
Instead of reading 4 short stories, I made myself believe it was one complete book, which helped to keep me interested during the slower sections. I will suggest the Wool books to all my friends.
And now I eagerly anticipate the arrival of Wool 5...

You can clearly tell this is an author who cares. Not only about the readers, but also about the story. Hugh clearly stresses over each chapter in the Wool saga (just read his blog, he's dedicated to producing a solid product and not above countless hours of second guessing himself in the process!)

In my opinion this is what makes the Kindle such an amazing improvement in the world of reading. Over the years of having publishers pull the wool over me (pun intended!), I love that Hugh could go out, write a great story, and publish it on the Kindle. I love the fact that Amazon's computers figured I might like it and brought it to my attention, and that after I read the sample I HAD to know what happened next. Seconds later I was tearing through this new find at a break neck pace.

Top shelf work Hugh, you should be very proud to put your name on this and each installment in the Wool franchise.

Thanks for spinning an enjoyable yarn!

5.0 out of 5 stars wool 4 - more surprises January 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Finished 3 at lunch, bought 4 and did something I haven't done since I was 11 years old and discovered GWTW: stayed up the majority of the night reading non-stop... Felt like I was in a desert and couldn't drink water fast enough. Devoured it - brilliantly written, twists and turns throughout the book. I hate Bernard even worse now - 24 hours later. Hugh needs to go to his room, lock the door, order in food, and finish Wool 5!!!! Please.....

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC July 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are 5 volumes, with the sixth being a prequel. I'll add my review to the fifth, instead of reviewing each individually....why? Because they are all equally brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must keep reading June 23, 2012
The worst part of my recent trip through the Wool story was having to put it down at its conclusion and not having another to pick up.

I read the 5 part omnibus available on Kindle. I found 3 errors in format (the Kindle would add to many spaces or even a blank line at obvious unintended points). This collection places the 5 pieces into a seamless and enjoyable reading experience. The result being a pleasant volume and chapter feel that is easy to navigate with ones mind.

I found it very easy to attach myself to the characters, both main and supporting. The plot flowed along with the sense of immense forethought.

I will definitely take a serious look at the authors other work and anticipate the same satisfaction towards future purchases I have towards this one. (I would expect Wool would be a title in its entirety that I would like to have in hardback at a price of 27.95)

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's Wool 5? January 10, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love this series "Wool". Good characters, interesting premise, good buildup, no awkwardly poor grammar or spelling that is often found in Kindle publishings. I expected the author was female, due to the progressive knitting titles, but I guess that's sexist of me - plenty of men knit. I enjoyed the series so much I honestly didn't pay attention to the author's name until I needed Wool 5 and started scoping his work. Isn't there going to be a Wool 5? You can't just end it now, like that *no spoilers*. But how am I going to sleep now? I need more Wool!

5.0 out of 5 stars mesmerizing!!!!!! January 11, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Wool 1 was entertaining enough for me to continue along. Wool 2 led me into a story that was so imaginable that I felt like one of the characters. I felt as if I couldnt consume the words fast enough. Needless to say, I just finished 4 and I don't know if I can wait for 5. These are MUST reads for anyone who is even trying to decide about these books. Thanks Hugh...keep writing!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "This is how the uprising begins--" September 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well, I've read Wool; Wool 2 - Proper Gauge; Wool 3 - Casting Off; and just finished this - WOOL 4 - THE UNRAVELING. I can't remember any other books that have caught my interest and held it like the WOOL series, any genre, for a long time.

Wow, I was transported to a post-apocalyptic world confined within the deep, restrictive walls of the Silo (or is it)? The author has created a world - dreary but not without hope.

But when events start to tumble out of control for the Mayor of the Silo, residents start the Uprising never talked about but always feared.

Will this be the end? Hopefully not since there is one more book in the series - Wool 5 - The Stranded - and time's a-wasting. I need to get reading and find out what happens to all the players.
