The blanket is low cost for a wool blanket, and the tag says it has 80% wool in it. The other materials are not defined. The weight and thickness is pretty good, especially for the cost. I think of it as light to midweight. The problem I had is that it smells of something like kerosene. I've washed it once using standard laundry detergent and it didn't help. I'm washing it again to see what happens. It's currently not acceptable for use even as a camp blanket due to the odor.

I bought two of these blankets, one blue, one forest green. Quality of manufacture was good, blanket hemmed at top and bottom. Not exceptionally thick, even after washing, but warm and sturdy. The smell that some complain about is a chemical added to moth proof the blanket for storage at a warehouse. Most military blankets have the same smell. It will wash out after a few washes, but it is more persistent than one might think so i would recommend those with chemical sensitivities/allergies not purchase this type of blanket. I use one every night and am happy with the purchase.

I did not measure it before I washed in cold water and dried on a lowest setting. On the blanket label it did say I could wash it. Once I put it on my bed it dd not look right so I measured it and it measured 66" x 74" where it was advertised as 66" x 84". Other then the size issue it is very comfortable and warm.

it became unusable after just 1 wash. It lost its shape and started shedding its fibers all over. My washer was filled with navy blue strands of wool/nylon (it looks more nylon) and my laundry room was filled with the shedding. I dared not put it in my dryer. Returned it.
It also had an unmistakable kerosene odor which did not go away with that wash. I doubt it would go away with any more washings. Looked like a nice product on screen :(

Good value, especially for the price, things to consider...
I searched and searched for a wool blanket that I could afford and ordered one of these. For the price, this is an exceptional blanket, I'm more than happy with it and would order again. Some things to consider:
~the blanket does smell, alot. Others have mentioned that it's a mothproofing, however it smelled to me like a wool spinning oil. Whatever it is, it is strong, and I highly recommend washing. I washed first on cold to set the color, then two washes on hot, all washes with detergent, added vinegar to the last rinse, and got rid of most of the smell. After drying, the blanket appeared to have shrunk a few inches, not something that bothered me.
~advertised as mostly/more wool than other blankets. I'm not sure what that means, label says 80%
~advertised as 'soft loom woven'. I'm not sure what that means either. The blanket does not appear to be woven, as in the traditional weaving sense, rather looks more like 'felted'. It has held well up to a season of use.
~some have complained of 'lint', either in the dryer or upon use. I didn't have a problem with either, however I did all that washing before use.
In summary, if I had $300-$500 to spend on a classic woven 100% wool blanket, I would certainly buy one. I don't. This is a very reasonable alternative.

For the price it's hard to beat. This is not your cheap pressed wool blanket, The weave and small percent of synthetic fiber gives a good strong base for long time use but it's not the same as a fleece synthetic in that its naturally breathable. Wool requires a completely different approach to cleaning, I prefer to wash it cold and hang dry to prevent loss of fiber and loft. I brush it if dirty and only wash as a last resort. wool becomes stiff and scratchy when the natural lanolin oil is washed out of its fiber which is another reason for my opinion on cleaning. I didn't expect much because of it's price but was pleased and surprised when I received it and prepped it for use.. I have allot of wool items brought back from New Zealand where factories give these specific instructions on use and care and if treated correctly will remain useful for many many years. For storing I used cedar wood that has recently been revived with pure cedar oil which also aids as a bug replant for camping and outdoor use.

I was searching for a good wool blanket for my adult daughter to use on her bed - she is trying to keep the cost of heating her condo at a reasonable level AND to be more "green." After looking at numerous web sites and stores I was about to give up on the idea of finding one of good quality for less than $100. Luckily I checked on amazon.com, and found one that sounded both warm and reasonably priced. I sent for the blanket featured - Wool Blanket, Soft Loom Woven, 66" x 84", Color Navy - and it arrived within the promised time, even though it was getting close to Christmas and I was worried that it might not make it in time.

Another reviewer had noted that one should be sure to wash the blanket following directions on the tag before using, to "lift" the fibers. This is important to increase the wool's ability to trap body warmth within the fibers. You will experience some "shedding" with this first washing, but that is normal.

I am very glad we found this particular blanket at such a great price!
