5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It! Bug It Now!
Without a doubt this is the best all around book on rug hooking I have in my library. And I have many books on my shelf. Tara Darr does a marvelous job instructing new hookers in the craft while not boring people who have hooked rugs for many years. This book contains a wealth of information. If I could only have one rug hooking book this would be it. The pictures...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I'm a beginner trying to learn punch needle rug hooking. This book is almost entirely about rug hooking with fabric, not yarn. I'm assuming there must be differences. At any rate, it is not at all what I am looking for, nor does it seem as comprehensive as the other reviews state. The section on hooking techniques does not show how to actually hook anything... rather it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It! Bug It Now!, July 14, 2005

The pictures are well done and the helpful hints are worth the purchase. Just when I think I finally know pretty much all I need to know about rug hooking along comes Tara Darr to teach me more. If I could give it more than five stars I certainly would.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Be Hooked on Rugs, Too!, September 21, 2005
This review is from: Wool Rug Hooking (Paperback)
This book is by far the best of its kind! With wonderful information to get anyone started in rug hooking (from the tools and supplies needed to techniques for dyeing, cutting wool, transferring patterns, hooking options and finishing the pieces), anyone can learn this age-old craft. Author Tara Darr not only shows how to create flat rug pieces, but she also provides instructions for such 3-D pieces as footstools, pillows and a cabinet. Traditional folk art designs, along with a few seasonal options, are easily replicated with the full-size pattern pull-out. With nearly 200 full-color photos and 50 how-to illustrations to accompany detailed step-by-step instructions, you're sure to become a successful rug hooker!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good history. Complete guidelines for beginners., January 13, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wool Rug Hooking (Paperback)
This book has a full history of rug hooking which is a nice background to have when starting out. The instructions for beginners are the most complete I've seen so far including information on tools and the different kinds of rug hooking. Pics are nice, and the projects look to be complete with proper instructions. Although several aren't to my taste, there is still enough variety here for me to choose some I like and it teaches my something regardless of whether or not I use the pre made patterns here.
