Insects and birds fly in myriad directions, leaving paths of dynamic beauty. A row of frogs seems misplaced yet Gerardo Fernandez intends to prove with this piece the perfect harmony of the nature. Geometric stylizations recall Inca artistry as Fernandez weaves with sublime perfection. Fernandez weaves on a two-pedal loom, a traditional Andean textile tool. Soft sheep wool (90%) and cotton (10%) are hand-spun and dyed with natural pigments such as the cochineal insect and native plants for the soft hues. Industrial dyes are used for the stronger, bold tones. As he weaves, Fernandez signs each piece "SUMAC" meaning "beautiful" in the Quechua language. Dry clean only. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
