This review is from: Word 2003 For Dummies (Paperback)
Several years back, probably more than ten, I read one of the "for Dummies" books. It's been so long ago, I don't even remember what the book was about, but I do remember that I was very disappointed in it. For that reason, I've always steered away from this series of books. However recently, I found myself in need of WORD 2003 FOR DUMMIES by Dan Gookin. I have to admit that I have been shocked by just how good this book is.I'm not a techie person by any means, and that makes me perfect this book. It is written in easy to understand terms and takes otherwise complex issues down to their basic level of simplicity. So far, I have turned to this book maybe half a dozen times and in each case, have mastered the subject with little difficulty. If you're like me, this may not be a book that you read through, but it is certainly one that you will reference as the need occurs. To that end, I am very satisfied with this book. I have certainly changed my mind about this series of books. I know different people write these books, but my first experience was so disappointing, I judged all of these books by their cover.

I got a promotion with added responsibility after updating several company-wide manuals and procedural handbooks, thanks to "Word 2003 for Dummies" because this book helped me construct elaborate and professional-looking documents. I was able to teach myself how to insert a table of contents and an index within about an hour, and I was also able to construct documents with different headers and footers pertaining to specific units. This book literally saved my job. :)

I wasn't sure which Word 2003 book to buy because there are a lot to choose form. So I checked around to see which author could help me the best. No contest. I had no idea how many awesome computer books Dan Gooken had written! The best new thing about Word 2003 has to be what you can do with smart tag now. It's great to be able to customize them.

I just got a new computer and needed a new Dummies book because I'm a dummy. I have already used this book to solve several problems. Windows XP is quite different from Windows 98 so this is a must have on my desk. Easy to use.

Too Simplistic,

I found this book to be too simple to be useful. It is truly for those who have not used Word, not for those who have some proficiency and are hoping to learn more about all the features of Word 2003. This is the first of the "Dummies" books I have purchased--and it will be the last!

I have had a number of dummies books and until now, they have on the whole disppointed me. You must understand though that I am English and speak that language which is not American. I think most of the books tend to overrate computer language skills of the average person trying to cope with computers. This one however is far more readable and much clearer in its explanations. Explanations of short cuts and other tips and quiffs are clear and not abstruse. Frank Jones

For a pre-computer generation senior citizen accustomed to learning about intricate procedures by reading thorough, clearly written explanations, this book has proved quite useful. For younger persons who grew up with access to personal computers, the book may be, for the most part, unnecessary.

Being a total dummy about computers, I bought this book so I could learn to use the Word program included on it. It's just wonderful. You can go page by page for a testbook-lesson esperience, or just look up what you need to do in the index. I would buy this book again if this one were destroyed. I recommend it to you.

Although I've been using Word for almost 10 years, I learned something new in the first 10 pages of this book. Word's automatic processes have always frustrated me; it was like a wriggling animal... you were never sure what would happen next. It looks like this book will be the key to the critter and I finally working together.

I found the answers to about half my Word problems in this book. I found the other answers fairly easily online. I should have looked online first.
