About the Author

Payne Consulting Group, Inc., is a software training and development company specializing in working with law firms, government, and corporate legal departments. We have authored eleven books on Microsoft software including the best-selling series, Word 2003, Word 2002, Word 2000, and Word 97 for Law Firms. We are an original member of the Microsoft Legal Advisory Counsel and because of this, have worked with Word and Office every step of the way.

Our training department has had the pleasure of working with thousands of people in law firms around the world. From each, we learn more about the software to share in these books. The best reward in writing our books and teaching classes is witnessing the ah ha moment when a tricky concept is realized. We learn as much from our students as they do from our teaching. If you want to take your knowledge to the next level after reading this book, we suggest that you attend the high-level Master Series: Word for Law Firms course.

Our products are used extensively around the globe. The famous Assistants—Metadata, Numbering, Forms, and Pleadings are a result of suggestions made by clients on what would make working with software easier. We strive for ease of use and simplified processes, and to fill the void left by other products on the market, all the while keeping the products affordable and up-to-date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, July 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Word 2003 for Law Firms (Paperback)
When we decided to upgrade from Word 97 to Word 2003, I was worried about how I was going to learn all of the changes quickly. Since we didn't upgrade to Word XP (and I think there was another version before that even that we didn't go to)there was much to learn. For Word 97, the book Word 97 for Law Firms also by this author was my bible. This new book is even better and I'm happy to recommend it to anyone who uses Word in a law firm and needs to get up to speed quickly. It has a CD with practice files on it and there is a chapter on metadata (which my attorneys have been asking me about), and a great chapter on complex documents. The price of this book is a lot less expensive than a training class and it does a good job of covering all of the information that I need to know about.

Working in legal recruiting I am so surprised at how few individuals there are who are proficient in MS Word, especially using styles for either word processing or litigation secretary.

This book should be given to secretaries who are working in firms, by the firms, as a work book. It is a very essential tool for getting things done in Legal.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is a lifesaver, December 10, 2004
This review is from: Word 2003 for Law Firms (Paperback)
Our small firm recently upgraded from Word 97 to Word 2003. I don't think we could have done it without the help of this book. Word 2003 for Law Firms provided all of the information we needed to understand the 'pitfalls' and new features in Word 2003. Hats off to the writers for providing such a great resource!
