Word 97 Explained,
This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
This book gives a good explanation on Word 97 and how to use it. Ranging from general windows settings to visual basic for applications (VBA) users from almost any level can find useful advise in this book. Written in an enjoyable style it is an easy read for anyone with interest for word 97. Together with Bill Camarda's 'Using Microsoft Word 97' from QUE for reference/addition you should be able to create some fancy documents.

Essential for anyone who is a PowerUser!,
This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
After recently rolling out Office 97 at work, we had torethink the way we operate. If you don't understand what Word isdoing when it messes up your docs, then you will be worse off. This book explains most of the quirks, even if there is no solution. I must open this book every day. The Website and the newsletter are also great resources. Get rid of the useless crap on your toolbar, and add value by putting in the stuff you use. After buying this book, I bought the rest of the Annoyances series. Plus the O'Reilly books are the best-in-class.

Thank you!!!!!,

I would have given this book 6 stars if you'd let me! The fact that Woody refuses to tout the Microsoft party line and tell things as they really are is the most valuable aspect of this incredibly well-written book. I wish I had found this book two and a half years ago when we left the best word processor (may it rest in peace) for Word, a move which left me more than a little bitter. Woody's tongue-in-cheek, yet straightforward approach to Word's idiosyncracies (or is that IDIOT-syncracies?) was a refreshing breath of fresh air! It's saved my sanity on more than one occasion.

Words, words, words...,
This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
...Why can't the decisions, rules and controls be mine? Having read this book, I now understand that defaults and standards aren't necessarily the last word. Helpful hints and shortcuts will make life easier for everyone. whether you only ever use word to dash off a letter or you regularly produce complex documants and tables. With a writing style of amiable sarcasm, Woody Leonhard has obviously learned his lessons the hard way. Don't make the same mistake - buy this book!

Right on the Money,

The chapter on Word macro viruses alone is by far the best treatment of the subject that I've seen anywhere.

The best no-nonsense Word book around,
By A Customer
This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
This is the best Word book I have read, offering a no-nonsense realistic view about Word. It faithfully reports what works and what doesn't and gives solutions to many mind-boggling bugs, shotcomings and deficiencies of Word. A must-read for any serious Word user. The only "problem" with it, is that you can't have enough ...

A humorous and useful guide through MS Word,
By A Customer
This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
Woody's typically humorous approach strikes home again in this book. Useful for beginners but better for those with computer or Word experience, wanting to learn a few of the tricks and traps. Also a good introductory guide to Word's VBA with step-by-step style. Woody has never been afraid of jibes at the glitchy aspects of Word and this book is no exception!

Must-Have Book,
By Jim Liston (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Great book about learning Word 97 annoyances. Complete coverage of these annoyances is followed by using VBA/Word as a solution to Word 97 annoyances. Very good introduction to VBA/Word. This book belongs on your bookshelf! My only complaint is that the book should be bigger.

Fantastic Book; wish author would update it,

This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
This is a fantastic book, and I would consider it essential to anyone who gets fustrated by Word's tendency to try to help you when you least want any help. Unfortunately the book is now about 3 years old, so some of the information in it no longer applies to Word 2000. You more or less have to determine which portions of the book are out-of-date and skip them. If Woody updates the book, I would buy it immediately.

Good tour of VBA workarounds,
By johare4 (Santa Fe, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Word 97 Annoyances (Nutshell Handbooks) (Paperback)
This book is not an intro to WORD features, but it manages to introduce many of them nonetheless. It also explains how to use VBA and macros to customize WORD. In addition, it explains a scheme for tracking down what instructions to use to make "fixes" that are very unobvious and (due to MICROSOFT's program) illogical uses of VBA. Many specific examples are provided.
