The best in the series,
By Beverly "bevreader" (Mississippi) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Word of Honor (Newpointe 911 Series #3) (Paperback)
Terri Blackstock's latest Newpointe 911 is the best of the bunch! Unlike the earlier two books in the series, the reader knows right away "whodunnit." However, this knowledge does not spoil the outcome at all; on the contrary, the twists and turns that the plot takes as the culprit is pursued keep you on the edge of your seat. As always, Blackstock's plots also involve a spiritual awakening for at least one of the main characters, and the revival of attorney Jill Clark is a major plotline of Word of Honor. How she copes with an unusual client who has some very black-and-white religious beliefs ties in with Jill's gradual renewal and deeper understanding of her own Christian faith. Word of Honor is Terri at her best, and I can hardly wait for the next in the series.

Raises Serious Questions,

This review is from: Word of Honor (Newpointe 911 Series #3) (Hardcover)
In general, I like Terri Blackstock's novels & this Newpointe series in particular even though I have a lot of nit-picking criticisms of them! However, even though I enjoyed this novel I had some serious problems with the covenant theme & Jerry's character. I though it raised some very problematic questions about a Christian's duty. Every review I read on this site was effusive with praise for this book. Didn't any of you have a question about the way this covenant theme was played out? Frankly, I cannot agree with Jerry's outlook even though I can sympathize with it. The author tiptoes around the difficult questions she herself has brought up as part of the plot. Despite some erratic behavior, Jerry is portrayed as basically a good guy, but where are the Christians who would bring up other considerations. What loyalty does one owe to a maniac who is a danger to society & to one's own family? How can it be Christian to facilitate the escape of such a person out of a sincere but misguided notion of covenant-keeping? What would ultimately be for Frank's own good? To let him go on killing & ultimately destroy himself & innocent people? Sorry, but I can't accept that. There's some very faulty theology here.

Intrigue, Conviction & (a little) Romance,
By A Customer
This review is from: Word of Honor (Newpointe 911 Series #3) (Paperback)
Once again, Terri Blackstock has proven herself to be among the best authors-- both Christian and secular. Word of Honor is a timely story as it deals with issues of terrorism, mental instability and trust. At the same time, Blackstock's true-to-life characters challenge the reader to evaluate their own relationship with Christ, reminding them of His sacrifice for us. With just the right combination of suspense, action, faith, and a dash of romance, this novel is sure to satisfy anyone hungry for a great story!

Word of Honor was so full of action and suspense that I couldn't put the book down. Following the story lines and characters was like watching it on a movie screen. The book while entertaining also motivated me to take a closer look at myself and my relationship with God and others. If you've read the earlier Newpointe 911 books you won't want to miss this one to reunite with the characters. I didn't think it could happen but Terri Blackstock's story lines get better with each book. I can't wait for the next one.

This was one of the bests books that I have ever read! Even though this book is an "adult" book, I reaed it in 1 day and I am in the 7th grade! This book has an interesting plot w/ a lot of twists to it! This book also has great Christian values, which add a lot to it! This is the best book and I guarentee you that You will not be able to put it down!(even if you are not in the 7th grade) My mom started it at night and finished it at 2:00am because it is soo thrilling and very very good!

Proof that Terri Blackstock knows her stuff!,

I would have to say that Terri Blackstock has shown her abilities as a writer once again in this book. She has demonstrated an absolutely excellent writing ability when it comes to this whole series! I greatly enjoyed "Word of Honor," and some of the themes of a covenant that were so prevalent in this book that I think are oftentimes overlooked so easily in our society. Mind you, I think there are a couple of points in which priorities lose their place in this book, but I also believe that they are restored before the end. I enjoy the murder mystery that is held in the story of one man's faithfulness to God, his family, and his friend. I also really enjoy the story behind Jill and Dan and all the struggles of their relationship while they're still so on and off. Most of all, I love the Christ-centered theme of all of Terri Blackstock's books. This is one sister in Christ who really knows how to write 'em!

Terri Blackstock is one author whose books I will buy even when my "books to read box" is full. She lets her faith in the Lord shine forth in her books. What a beautiful woman of God. She can give you suspense and faith all wrapped up in a wonderful story.

This book was probably my favorite out of Blackstock's Newpoint 911 Series - the suspensful story of lawyer Jill, and firefighter Dan fighting to protect their lives makes for a great read! I would recommend this to all- as well as the other books in this series! :)Also: The Second Chances Series & Sun Coast Chronicles by Terri Balckstock. |
