3.0 out of 5 stars Okay game
I purchased this game because I'm a big fan of crosswords and other word games. While the gameplay is simple to follow, it quickly becomes repetitive. If you don't mind a game that doesn't advance to much more complex levels (essentially solving the same puzzles with different letters on each different game), this is for you.

The best part is being able to play against others. It is neat to be able to challenge my son on his ds, even if he is in another room. I was very surprised when i was on a recent 5 hour car drive that my 60 year old mother would not put this game down. My mom would never use any sort of gameboy before. I showed her the game and she loves crossword puzzles and scrabble so she was hooked quickly. Because of the great Ds battery life we had a 3 hour challenge going. Now my mom wants a DS!

I wish more players would come on the WIFI. I rarely find anyone else to play against except local download.

I recommend this game. It has been fun for my family from ages 9-60! and it has become a great tool for spelling for my younger children.

I really like this Word Jong game. At first glance I thought it would be like Mah Jong but was glad it wasn't. The tiles are like Mah Jong but you make words out of the letters that are available on top of the tiles.

It is really alot of fun! My favorite part is the daily calendar Word Jong. A puzzle for each day! So far I have solved the whole month of February! You can go back to previous month if you want.

Great word game if you are into forming words on what is available to you or if you like spelling as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost like BookWorm, December 7, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Word Jong (Video Game)
This game is a lot like Bookworm that you can play on your PC, but not quite as challenging as the letter area is not as big, and there are no "burning" letters. It could be a bit more challenging, with more letter space like on the PC version, but it's a lot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun word game, March 1, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Word Jong (Video Game)
I am 66 years old and purchased a nintendo DS for myself at Christmas. I purchased the game Word Jong and have enjoyed it very much. My son, in his 40's, also stated it was hard to put it down. My granddaughter, who is 8, loves using it and I purchased another one for her use. I think with all the texting being done today that children have lost the capacity to learn to spell words correctly. I believe this game is a challange to any age and will be a tremendous help to children learning to spell words. Thank you for providing this game and I hope you can come up with more of these learning types of games.

5.0 out of 5 stars lots of fun!, January 9, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

It's very similar to the Pogo version of WordJong, which is one of the reasons I wanted it. Temple Challenge gives you the opportunity to earn bronze medals, similar to the ranks on pogo. You earn 1 wild card, extra coins for longer words and they have green multiplier tiles. They also have a daily puzzle where you have the opportunity to beat the high score of the day. I like playing the battle mode under single player. Each game has two rounds and for every game you win, you earn coins. The more coins you earn, the harder the opponents are that you can unlock.

Overall, I really enjoy playing the game. If you like playing the pogo version, you'll like playing this one.

I would compare this game to a Scrabble type game. It's challenging and shows me that I need to brush up on how many words I know, since I seem to only come up with short words. (lol) So far I really like it and it's something you can play for short periods of time. You don't need to have an hour or two set aside for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uses the Official SCRABBLE(R) Players Dictionary, January 26, 2008

I have both MahJong Quest and this game, WordJong.

WordJong is a well-designed game: hats off to Destineer, Gameblend Studios, and Magellen. The graphics look great, and there are small touches (for example, special colored tiles) that make this game special.

The screen resolution is noticeably better for this game than MahJong Quest; to be fair, though, more tiles needs to be displayed on the MahJong Quest screen.

The music is soothing (if you don't like it, you can always turn it off). The game enables you and your "real" opponent to decide on the amount of time to form words. There doesn't appear to be a time restriction on forming words when playing against the virtual opponents, however.

One important thing to know about WordJong is that it appears to use _The Offical SCRABBLE(R) Players Dictionary_ as its source for playable words.

Therefore, you might be surprised as you battle the tougher virtual opponents to see them use quirky SCRABBLE(R) words like

xu
ka
jo
ai
qanat
qat
qoph

If you'd rather play using a standard dictionary's lexicon (I personally don't mind the SCRABBLE(R) dictionary words, that option is not available.

And that's about the only suggestion I have for the game's designers -- perhaps version 2.0 could enable users to choose between the SCRABBLE(R) dictionary or another "everyday" dictionary. I'd recommend _Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary,_ or none at all.

Another fact(oid) about this game is that when you play Temple Challenge, points don't appear to be awarded for games in which you don't use all of the letters. For example, if you leave unused letters "behind," you can begin a new game, but points do not seem to be added to your score until you complete unfinished games (which means using ALL of the tiles...not always an easy task).

Again, a great game that with just a few minor improvements could be sublime. As some others have said, think of SCRABBLE(R) or BOGGLE(R), but better!

I was looking for a nice puzzle game for my DS and bought this based on great reviews. I was not disapppointed. I got hooked on the game right away. This game is highly addictive and has good graphics & sound.
The multi player mode is a lot of fun and that alone is worth the [...] for the game. The battle mode is pretty good but the early stages are pretty easy for an adult.

One useful enhancement that I would like to see is a dictionary/thesaurus option. If you like to play scrabble, this game is a blast. Even otherwise, if you like puzzle games and would like to sharpen your vocabulary, this is a great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars So simple in theory..., July 31, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Word Jong (Video Game)
No time limits, unlimited 'undo's, a simple concept - this game has to be a piece of cake! Not even close. While the idea (pulling off tiles to form words) is dead simple, winning the game is quite difficult.

I've only played the 'daily puzzle' version, as I have no one else to play against, so my review will really only cover that game mode. Still, that alone would be reason to buy it!

I like the fact that there are two levels of winning - clearing the board and beating the high score. You can clear the board and get partial credit for a win if your score isn't high enough, or you can clear the board and get the high score for the full win. It's nice to have an in-between stage for the times when you're not quite 'on' enough to get a full win.

My one and only quibble is the dictionary is not as full as I'd like. There have been several instances where I've tried to use words I know are correct, only to be told it was not in the dictionary. And with no way to add any, well, it's just a bit of a disappointment when you know you have a great word and can't use it.

This has quickly risen to be my favorite DS game, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves words and puzzles... and has a lot of patience!
