5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD of the year
I'm assuming that anyone who rated this CD at less than 4*'s did not listen to the same CD that I did. Mac writes excellent songs with definate storylines. Songs that stir up emotions, be they good or bad. You don't just hear his songs, you listen to them. Good music, good lyrics. Did I mention he has a good voice too? It's all here for the listening. Every song for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too-long gap between albums may have affected this fan...
I love listening to Mac. His voice is a much deeper, more pleasant, and much friendlier "version" of James Taylor. So I was looking forward to this, his first new album in years. Unfortunately, the long gap between releases may have heightened my expectations unrealistically. I've felt only disappointment with "Word of Mouth". To my ears, Mac...

5.0 out of 5 stars The soul of everyday life ..., November 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Word of Mouth (Audio CD)
Saw Mac at the House of Blues in Boston on Labor Day weekend, he was so-o-o great! Anyone who has listened to his lyrics finds he has great insight to the soul of everyday living. If you can find any of his music, or him in concert, its a must have/must go! His southern style reminds you of a spring Sunday on the porch with family and friends, thoughtful and fun, no frills. A member of the Coral Reefers, JB has even does some of his tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars More please, March 11, 2003
This review is from: Word of Mouth (Audio CD)
Were it not for the fact that this CD was only 34 minutes long it would earn five stars. I waited years for this and you can only spare me a half an hour Mac? I hope you're spending the rest of the time remastering "Nothin' But the Truth" and "Finish Lines" for CD. Please. Mac is one of the truly wonderful singer songwriters alive today. His lyrical insight and his deft touch on the guitar are enough to make you cry. He's on heavy rotation on all my CD players at home. At any price, these are 34 minutes that you must have if you appreciate true talent in acoustic/folk style of music, but let's get on Mac to give us a full sixty next time. Waiting for the next Mac release (whatever it may be, or however long, regardless of my kvetching I'm hooked) as soon as it comes out.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Mac Not Afraid To Venture", July 10, 1999
By
This review is from: Word of Mouth (Audio CD)
Word Of Mouth is not your typical Mac McAnally recording but when you think about it what IS a typical Mac McAnally recording? It is almost impossible to categorize Mac's music and that is what makes him so interesting. His willingness to venture into new unexplored fields is so refreshing and welcome. I'm sure that the fans of Mac's earliest recordings will be quite surprised at "Word Of Mouth" but give it a chance before writing it off. Mac's songwriting skills are again the highlight of the project and his warm, friendly voice always brings a smile. Be sure to pick up a copy and remember that on July 27 Mac's first two albums will be released on CD for the first time. Well worth the 20 year wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Over and Over, June 2, 2000
This review is from: Word of Mouth (Audio CD)
Loved this cd. Heard one of the songs on Radio Margaritaville (Out the Window) and thought I'd give this CD a try. Didn't expect much but was completely surprised. Macs a classic storyteller. Don't miss this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too-long gap between albums may have affected this fan..., July 4, 1999

To my ears, Mac still sounds as great as ever, but many of the songs on the CD sound better suited for others. Jimmy Buffett is an obvious influence (I'm betting that the very lame "The Ass and the Hole" is a staple at Buffett concerts), Carly Simon would cover "Against the Odds" like nobody's business... But there are very few "Mac" songs for my taste ("Just One Forever" and "Pop Top Hop" are about the only ones to have that "Mac" touch). Still... Mac needs to sell as many CDs as possible, so I'm not saying 'don't buy this...' Just keep it in perspective as one of his not-so-great efforts!

Mac McAnally is a real find! I have listened to Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band regularly, thanks to XM radio, for the past year. I have grown old with his songs over the years and owned a half dozen JB CD's already, but never really paid much attention to the talent surrounding him. Mac is a treasure! His songs are so easy to listen to and I wish his CD contained more tracks. I'll be purchasing his old and new CD's alike as a result of taking a risk on this one, which I knew nothing about. I do not think a music lover will be disappointed. He is so easy to listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best bluesy /country albumns ever released!, June 13, 1999

Mac is truely a genius. This one albumn has more feeling than the last thousand albumns that have come out of Nashville. "Things To Do Today" is a raw cut; it has become my theme song!

I haven't taken this cd out of my player since I received it. Mac's talent and obvious love of music and writing comes through very clearly. The songs are well-written and performed beautifully by Mac, a truley gifted singer/songwriter.
