I'm a word nut. I love words and I love grammar. I was excited about this calendar, but I have been quite disappointed and frankly, I may just toss it into the trash. The words each day are...how do I put this....lame. One of the first few days, the calendar explained the origin of the word "Facebook." Really? Who cares about that? Not me. Other days have been just as lame. And the descriptions of the origins are superficial and chatty. I feel like I get more about the author's opinion of the word than the actual origin or history of the word. I am rather disappointed with this purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars What You'd Expect, February 12, 2011

This review is from: The Word Origin 2011 Day-to-Day Calendar (Calendar)
The page design is very clear and easy to read, and the 'calendar' is bound at the top with gummed edges, so it's easy to rip off the page and save it, send it along to someone, or toss it.

The plastic stand is kind of cheesy but typical for these types of calendars. The calendar also sags a little on the plastic stand, but again for the price, pretty typical.

If the manufacturer is reading this, I think it's time to "re-imagine" this sort of product, make it more fun, play with the display and format, maybe design so you can view a day or week (using folds and perforated seams), use images to illustrate word origins, make a "perpetual" version, etc. etc. The content itself is not intellectual property, so timeto have some fun with the design!

Also, versions for smart phones, iPads?

4.0 out of 5 stars Calandars, January 27, 2011

This is the 5th year I've gotten one of these for my office desk. I love the information. In previous years there was additional information on the back side of each sheet. This year's calandar does not have that.
