Book Description

May 1, 1994
This collection of seventeen previously unpublished essays, sermons, and addresses by Lesslie Newbigin puts forth his developing view of the agenda for Christian missions. Considered "the quintessence of Newbigin's thought" by editor Eleanor Jackson, these papers record the dynamics of Newbigin's ideas about mission as he confronted new issues in the church and society from 1960 to 1992.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Critique of Modernity from Christian Perspective, January 31, 2001
By
Dae Ryeong Kim (Pasadena, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Word in Season: Perspectives on Christian World Missions (Paperback)
Lesslie Newbigin (1909-98) was one of the outstanding Christian leaders of the twentieth century and one of the ablest Christian apologetics in modern time. Publications of his books proved to be successful always as his audiences with a variety of academic backgrounds gain profits from his writings. Along with his other previous books such as ¡°Foolishness to the Greeks¡± and ¡°The Open Secret,¡± this one ¡°A Word in Season¡± progressively builds a theory for mission theology, especially in the context of modernity.

Well footnoted, this volume met the demand of the academically serious-minded readers. This book consists of seventeen chapter, and the important chapters for mission studies include: ¡°The Cultural Captivity of Western Christianity as a Challenge to a Missionary Church,¡± ¡°Reflections on the History of Missions,¡± amd ¡°Mission in a Pluralist Society.¡±
