We have purchased multiple vocabulary books for my son. He doesn't read as much as we would like, and all of the other vocab books went by the wayside as well. "Word Smart" grabbed his attention. It's subtly funny, just enough to appeal to teens. From the get-go, the book has personality. Read some of the preview pages to see for yourself!

This book is great, the words in it are all seen on the SAT Practice Tests. I was taking a SAT practice test, and found that 90% of the words that I had difficulty with were in this book. One thing I don't like about this book is that it is in Alphabetical order, which I don't prefer when trying to memorize words. Otherwise, I definitely recommend it.

The Princeton Review series are the best source for learning vocabulary and then using mnemonics to remember the words. The Word Smart book is excellent for those preparing to take College entrance exams. If one can afford the audio CDs, the Princeton Review series is the best. I listened to the "The Genius Edition" CDs and they were excellent. If you want a good vocabulary, this is a must have item. I am 71 years of age and recommend word study to stimulate your mind and keep it active. There will be no evanescence when you learn the Word Smart way.

I am a very forgetful person and have always struggled with vocabulary. I am an international student and my vocab is extremely limited, and it is a great pain to see words that I don't know every once in a while.

Whenever I memorized words, I was never able to remember those in just one day, because I used to memorize words by words--only the definition of the words and not understand how to use them in context. And then I got this book!

It has great example sentences and/or additional explanation through which I can easily understand the usage of the words, and also clarifies the actual meaning of commonly misused words by many people. Since I understand the words themselves, instead of simply memorizing their literal definitions, I can not only remember the words longer but also know exactly how to use them in the actual conversation! It has been like a week or two since I opened this book, but I still remember the words I memorized the first day. (Well, if it sounds like nothing, to me it is a miracle. I used to ask my friend the meaning of a word for more than ten times, and still forget it!) The book also explains subtle differences between words that are often confused by many.

If you have a plenty of time, it would be a good idea to memorize just 1~3 sets per day and try to use them in your general conversation. It's not a lot, probably 10 to 25 words, but it's better to do a little bit at a time for your own benefit in the future. Also make sure you really know the correct usage and the nuance of the words.

Sadly I can't do this because I don't have much time left that I can spend for this book. I memorize five sets per day and review previous ones once in a while.

Word Smart is awesome - I absolutely love it. As an English teacher and SAT tutor, I know that it can be hard to find a consistent way for students (and adults) to improve their vocabulary. There are quick quizzes, detailed word entries (which give the pronunciation, a sentence using the word, and variations on the word). The entries are well organized and the quizzes are organized in a way that allows for students to handle the definitions in chunks of 10 to 12 words. There is also a section for individuals prepping for the GRE, and there is a whole chapter on roots that will help students break down unknown words in order to decipher the meaning. Overall, this book is wonderful for anyone looking to improve their vocabulary.

Book makes learning as easy as possible. Love everything about it. Wish I had had this book
while in school. Even a senior citizen can learn a lot and have fun doing it with this book.
