Product Description

Word Soup is a word search game with a tactical twist.

Create words within the grid of scrambled letters. Each word created is removed from the grid and the letters above fall into the gaps left behind, creating new word combinations. With careful play, letters can be strategically brought into play and used to create longer words. You score bonus points if you can successfully clear the grid of all letters. The starting grid is randomly generated, so no two games should ever be the same.

Word Soup offers two modes of play: 'Relaxed' - for those who like to take their time and try to create the longest words, and 'Timed' - where players can test themselves against the clock to see how they score under pressure. Your 'Longest Word', 'Highest Scoring Word', 'Words Made' and 'Total Score' stats are all tracked. Word Soup can be played in Portrait, as well as Landscape view.

If you like word games, you'll love Word Soup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever little game March 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this today and it is a clever game concept. Instructions and graphics look professional and controls are easy (make sure you at least read the first page of the instructions). Unlike other word search games, the letters don't need to be in just one direction, so you will have to also look "around the corner" for matching letters. I like the relaxed mode (no timer) and still have to manage to clear the whole field, but over all the game play is intuitive and it was fun to play right from the start.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and challenging word game March 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I just bought this game and have only played it once, but after that one game I am certain I will be playing it again and again to try to clear the board and better my score.

I chose to play the "Relaxed" game because I hate timers and never do my best when one is running. I tend to play all word games on "relaxed" mode, if it's available. The "relaxed" game is a lot of fun and quite a challenge (even without the timer). It takes a little getting used to how the tiles fall, as they do not drop straight down, but it appears rather down and to the right (if you used any spaces open up that direction). The movement happens so fast that it was hard to determine exactly where the unused tiles were going, but they were definitely not dropping directly below them all the time. It could take a few games of watching closely to really be able to figure out just how the tiles drop, if you are trying to move tiles around the board to prepare for future moves.

For any Pogo players out there, this game reminds me a bit of Tumblebees. One big difference between the two games, however, is that in this game, each tile in your word must touch the letter tile that comes before and after it. For example, if you are spelling the word M-A-Z-E, you must be able to get to the "E" directly from the "Z", and not from the "M" or the "A" (which is how it works in Tumblebees, where, as long as all the letters touch in any order, you can do it). This makes this game much more challenging than Tumblebees. Personally, I would prefer it be a little more flexible (where as long as all the letters touch you can use them), however, the game is still a lot of fun the way it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun word search game March 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a fun game and works well on my K2. I use the relaxed game play, which is still challenging. I've played several rounds and have yet to clear the board, but I still enjoy seeing how many words I can find and how long I can make them. This is different from a lot of word searches in that you can go any direction, even in circles, as long as the tiles touch each other, and you don't use a tile more than once. At the end of the game, you can enter your name annd keep track of your scores (the most words per game, the longest word, highest scoring word, etc.).

I have found out one thing: if I have to stop playing the game long enough for the screen saver to come on, I need to close out of the game. If I don't, and the game is in progress when the screen saver comes on, the Kindle can't seem to open the game when I wake the Kindle back up - hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, the game play works smoothly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Addictive Distraction! March 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Every Word is still my favorite Kindle word game, but Word Soup has taken over the number two spot. It's fun to form words going every which way like some kind of crazy constellation. Both timed games and relaxed games are enjoyable. I like that the high total scores for timed and relaxed games are separate; I do not like that the high scores cannot be reset to clean the slate. As has been observed by others, the ability to zoom around by holding down the five-way controller would be an improvement. I've had no problems with the functioning of the game on my Kindle 3. Reading for pleasure on my Kindle tempts me away from other things I should be doing, and now here's another game that tempts me away from reading for pleasure! Arghh!!! :-)

May 15, 2011, update: I am downgrading my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars until the end-of-game bug noted by other reviewers has been fixed. Then I will be happy to restore it to 5 stars, because this would be an outstanding game without the bug!

July 29, 2011, update: Version 1.1 of this game was released on June 6, 2011. I emailed Fuzzy Bug Interactive to ask if they had addressed the bug identified by Amazon reviewers. I received the following response, with apologies for the bug: "The v1.1 fix should mean the end-of-game bug is no longer an issue. Also the controller can now be held down to move the cursor more easily." In my own game play since the update, I have cleared the board with the words bard, goo, and mom, and the game has never failed to recognize that a valid word could be made with the remaining letters. Plus the cursor keeps moving now if the 5-way controller is held down. So my rating is back to 5 stars! :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but still has 'bugs' March 23, 2011

First, I do admit I enjoy this game. It's a time consuming and addictive word game. The down side, is that you will be incredibly upset when you come down to the very last word, and the game quits and says 'no other words available', when in fact, you have a perfectly simple word there that you have worked down to --- only to lose your 500 bonus points for something as simple as the word 'bad.' I've also cleared the board other times with perfectly normal words that it would not accept. Ironically, on the next game, of course I made the word and it was going to allow 18 points for that game -- tho it would not accept it previously on a winning game! Fortunately, I have cleared the board and gotten one winning game according to them. But so far, it has not accepted 'bad', 'cad', 'dab', snuggle, sulfate etc when I've worked them down to the last word - but in other games, it will accept and give you points. So that's a frustrating little bug. Still, it's a fun game.

This is a good way to exercise your brain. I just wish it were easier to go back one letter without clearing the word I started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game
Well, this is one of the most time-consuming purchases I've made this year! The larger your vocabulary, the more interesting it is to play, I suspect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay but not great
I was looking for a game like Word Mole, which I played on my old Verizon Storm and love, it's OK but in my opinion doesn't compare to Word Mole
