Editorial Reviews

Explicit Version. Word on tha Streets is the third album from Skatterman & Snug Brim, a Rap duo from Kansas City, Missouri. Their music video for the song "Ups And Downs" was released on the internet via video site YouTube. Skatterman & Snug Brim go straight from the streets to your stereos so watch out as Skatterman & Snug Brim are here to make noise n' the hood. Reppin' Kansas City hard, you know these gritters will be grindin' from start to finish. Featuring appearances from Tech N9ne, Young Buck, Paul Wall and others, this album is sure to be a permanent fixture in your car - might as well get two copies so you can keep one in your crib too.

This review is from: Word on Tha Streets (Audio CD)
SKATTERMAN & SNUG BRIM
WORD ON THE STREETS

SKATTERMAN and SNUG BRIM return after something like three years to hit the streets with another album.

1.INTRO-great intro with Tech letting some guy know what it is

2.I'M THAT -this is a great opening track, I can really feel the energy of all involved with this track. Psychopathic Records producer SEVEN really did an excellent job with this track. He gave these guys a banging instrumental to rip to, and they of course do. Both drop some great lyrics and showcase a great flow, RICH THA FACTOR, TECHN9NE, and THE POPPER all each hold it down as well. Great opening track, potential single.5/5

3.HOLD ME DOWN-another good song follows that excellent opener, and both artists drop some great lyrics. This more of a story telling type song, and it fits the style of the beat perfect. DAVID SANDERS II produced a great track, a great mix of drum lines and organs create this classic. Also TRACELLA did an excellent job on this track with her beautiful vocals. Another good track, another potential single.5/5

4.SUKKA DUKKAS-Seven returns to drop another hot instrumental for not only Skatter and Snug but also YOUNG BUCK as well. The track is obviously southern influenced and has that bounce type style going on. All three artists ride the production well, but Buck obviously feels more at home on this production. This is over all another good track from the album, I also believe this is an actual single for the album.4/5

5.GET BACK-David Sanders returns to drop a cool sounding old school type of track for Skatter & Snug. The horns in this track really make this track sound off the chain. Both sound excellent over this track and really hold it down, Tech, KRIZZ KALIKO, and TRAVIS O'GUIN all appear on this track as well. Could be a cool single.5/5

6.GO HARD-Seven returns and drops a hard knocking beat that will have you bouncing. Snug and Skatter kill this track with ease on each verse and the hook as well. BG BULLETOUND does his thing as well on this track and Tech makes another appearance. This is another great track for the album, and once again could be a good single.5/5

7.ON MY FEET-BAR NONE comes threw to produce this banger right here, this beat is off the chain and all on the track sound great. Krizz Kaliko in particular sounds amazing on the hook and really adds to this song. Skatter and Snug sound excellent over this hardcore beat, as does surprise guest PAUL WALL. This is absolutely one of the best tracks on the album and ever released from Strange Music. This would be the perfect single.5/5

8.LIL' MOMMA-Seven returns to drop a very energetic beat for the clubs out there, and this is were this track would really be banging. Both sound cool over this track but the hook is a little simplistic. This is a surprise because Kaliko holds that down, but over all a good track.4./5

9.COME OVA-Seven is in the house again and delivers once again with some great production, and you know S&S hold this track down. This song is all about the ladies, and both kill it. Also Tracella returns along side GLENNAE B. HARVEY on a great hook probably could be a cool single due to the subject matter.4.5/5

10.WATCHIN' ME-this like track 7 is absolutely amazing and should be a single with a video nationally. WYSHMASTER really did his thing on this track, the instrumental is beautiful and perfect for this song. S&S really do their thing as well on this track, but VANCE LAROY and Tracella make this track a classic with their brilliant chorus. This is a great track that should get radio play like crazy.5/5

11.RUN THE STREETS-Vance LaRoy returns to drop some vocals on the hook for this track. And David Sanders returns to drop a very street oriented instrumental, very dark sounding track. S&S do their thing on this song telling some hood stories for all to enjoy. Over all this is a pretty good track and a nice addition to the album.4/5

12.FOOLZ-David returns again dropping a great instrumental for S&S to rip it up to, the beat is real cool with it's horns. The Popper also returns to lend a hand on the album again, and this track is defiantly off the hook. Speaking of hooks this song has a real cool catchy chorus. Over all a nice step up for the album.4.5/5

13.UPS & DOWNS-now this track here is a single I believe because there is a video for this track. This is another really good song and a worthy addition to the album. David Sanders drops another winner on this song, the beat is definitely one of the best on the album. S&S definitely kill this track, and also supply a very catchy chorus. I definitely understand why this track was chosen as a single for the album.5/5

14.OLD SKOOL-Seven is in the house again producing this track for S&S, and it is definitely a bass heavy track. Skatterman and Snug really do their thing on this track along side E-CLIPS. This is indeed a good song, and you will definitely be bobbing your head to this.4/5

15.KNOCK OUT SKIT-cool skit setting up the next track

16.STARTER-ROBERT REBECK produced this rock influenced song, and it is really a good change of pace from the rest of the album. Both of them really sound good over this type of music, and the music is off the hook. A lot of times rock and rap really don't mesh well but in this case both sides come together brilliantly. Real good song.4.8/5

17.HEARTBREAKER-Skatterman, Snug Brim, Techn9ne, and Krizz Kaliko all sound good over this high energy production from David Sanders. The piano on this track is real cool sounding and really drives the track. Krizz sounds great on the hook and S&S hold it down, but it is Tech who steals the show on this track. Good song.5/5

18.BIGGA THAN THAT-Seven returns to drop a very Bay Area influenced track for S&S, E-SKOOL, and YOUNG AGE. This track is perfect for when you are riding, and just cruising down the freeway. All do their thing on this track, good song over all.4.5/5

19.IT'S NOTHIN'-wonderful song right here, every thing about this song was just done to perfection. Skatterman and Snug Brim each adjust their flow to a more laid back style for this beautiful instrumental. Seven really held it down on this track, a great instrumental. Also Krizz Kaliko sounds great on the hook, very good song.5/5

20.HELP ME CHANGE-The SOUNDMAN produced this excellent closing track, I really like the violin in the beat. Also another cool thing about this song is that KUTT CALHOUN holds it down on this track. Kutt and S&S each go hard on this song with some great lyrics, and Vance Laroy sounds amazing on the chorus. This was definitely a wise choice for the closer to the album.5/5

This album is definitely worth every penny you will pay for it, great album, another great release form Strange.

I got this item being that I am a Tech N9ne fan and a fan of most of the stuff coming out of strange music. I didn't like this album all that much, there are some ok songs on it but nothing great. I would recommend getting the Kutt calhoun, Krizz Kalico or Tech N9ne albums instead.
