North Carolina Poetry Shows Vitality at Century's End,
By A Customer
This review is from: Word and Witness: 100 Years of North Carolina Poetry (Paperback)
This collection of poetry by North Carolina poets at the turn of the century is a treasure of voice and diversity. Divided into chronological sections, the book presents the growth and changes in North Carolina poets' style and vision. Long a state known for its writers, North Carolina can boast of poets like Randall Jarrell, Robert Watson, Fred Chappell, A.R. Ammons, James Applewhite, Kathryn Stripling Byer, Betty Adcock,R.T. Smith, and Susan Ludvigson, to name just a few of the writers included in this book. The last section comprised of new voices shows why N.C. poetry will continue to thrive, showcasing up and coming writers like Denise Blue, Debora Kinsland Foerst ( two young Native American poets), as well as Cathy Smith Bowers,Nancy Simpson, Michael McFee, Isabel Zuber, and Becke Roughton. A worthy addition to the library of anyone interested in Southern poetry, not to mention American literature.
