Strongly recommended reading for the woman who wants to know all she can before making a decision,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
It's a major change in a woman's life to lose the ability to give birth. "The H Word" discusses the hysterectomy and the details surrounding it. Nora W. Coffey & Rich Schweikert seek to arm women with knowledge about the procedure and encourage them to understand when it is truly necessary by discussing symptoms, viable alternatives to the procedure, and giving solid advice in understanding the after-effects. "The H Word" is strongly recommended reading for the woman who wants to know all she can before making a decision.

Absolutely essential reading for any woman contemplating the surgical amputation of her female organs. I wish I had read it before I was manipulated into consenting to an unnecessary hysterectomy and unilateral castration.

I like how it goes into every state of the country. I should've read this years ago, and then I wouldn't have all the problems I'm having now.

The H Word takes a hard look at the complexities surrounding hysterectomy and expertly depicts, where women's health is concerned, all roads may lead to unnecessary, unconsented, and unwarranted surgery. The H word challenges all women and men to put an end to the deception that has enabled this practice for the past 100 years.
After reading this book, or even if one reads the first few chapters, you will find this book honors the many forgotten generations of women, lives lost at the alter of the surgical procedure hysterectomy, it sheds light on the many consequences experienced by the 22 million women currently living post-surgery, clarifies the issues the vast number of women given a recommendation for hysterectomy today need to know, and it serves as a warning for future generations. This revolutionary book attempts to shed light on female anatomical facts, true informed consent, and the undeniable right of choice. With the backdrop of the year-long Protest and Play, it explains the permanent and devastating consequences of the H word on women, men, their families, and society at large. The H word is the only book that cuts to the heart of the supposedly "hysterectomy controversy" which in actuality is the marketing of hysterectomy. The H word explains: - the anatomical and functional necessity of the uterus for the health of a women her entire life - the fact that, unless the necessity of the uterus and the consequences of its removal, are explained pre-surgery, one cannot have informed consent - no amount of technological advances to remove the uterus change the necessity of the uterus - the consequences of removing the uterus has numerous expected and far-reaching results, as the medical community redefine the being of a woman Per the H word: The internal female genital organs have lifelong functions that can never be replaced. There is never an age or a time in a woman's life when her uterus and ovaries are not essential to her health and well-being. I'm glad I found this book.,
This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
I'm so glad I found this book. It may have saved my life and my marriage. My poor husband. He feels terrible because he blamed me because I changed so much. We had really had a great sex life before, it was a big part of our intimacy, but that's gone since the surgery. I lost all sexual feeling. We went to so many doctors, and they all said there was nothing wrong with me, they gave me antidepressants. Some said it was in my head. One said he never heard anything like that, all the women he did hysterectomies on are happy.
But we're grateful to know the truth. It's sad, what this surgery did to me and my family. Women need this book to understand how important the uterus and ovaries are. I thought I knew a lot about my body before the hysterectomy, but I'm embarrassed to say that I realize now that I didn't know very much at all.

This book will save millions of women,
By Cathy (MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
This is not only a book that women should read, but a book that everyone should read. While it very educational, at the same time, it is written in a very interesting way and is a real page turner. I had only planned to read a couple chapters to start with, but couldn't put it down through 200 pages even though I was very tired at the time. Following Nora and Rick's experience through the United States and reading the personal stories and struggles of so many women is a real eye-opener. Gynecologists have kept women in the dark while they've amputated the female sex organs of millions of women, and this book shows the carnage all over the United States. These are stories you won't hear in the news, or by doctors. It's scary to know that the hospitals have so much power that they can get the police to threaten to arrest women to stop peaceful protesting. This surgery damages a woman in so many different ways, and this book puts into words what is so difficult to describe. Millions of women have been duped into this unnecessary surgery, and this book will help them really understand what happened to them. For women who are intact, this book will save you.

Thank you Nora for your work!,
This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
Women are not treated with dignity when it comes to uterine fibroids. My own excellent OBGYN said easily that he'd perform complete hysterectomy and rushed to schedule a surgery like it was teeth cleaning. No any consideration for my feelings and no information from him. I had to ask him about details and make sure he means what he means. His response was: "But you are not planning to have children, therefore complete hysterectomy is the best choice". Yes, he said, he can try to remove only fibroids but he can not guarantee it. I.e. no respect and no necessary training.
Online search led me to the HERS website where I found information on reproductive anatomy, health conditions, and "the situation" in medical field where women have their reproductive organs removed without necessity. I did speak to Nora a few times and was impressed with the level of knowledge and with her counseling skills. My family doctor's reaction to my desire to keep my female organs with me was that for some reason it is very emotional issue for me. Yes, we women need to protect us from being butchered and we are emotional about it. Mine is happy end story with finding a doctor who removed only fibroids. I did not read the book but Nora Coffee saved my health, happiness and dignity.

An astounding look at hysterectomy & castration,
This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
The combination of Coffey's and Schweikert's experiences through 51 cities is incredible...The female and male perspective is essential to understanding the impact of hysterectomy and castration... As a nurse, I am grateful to have this book as the first complete resource for my patients, friends and family...It offers answers to questions that women and men don't even realize they need to ask... The H Word provides a thoroughly encompassing and intimate view of this surgery and the aftereffects that have been shrouded in secrecy... It is the most honest book available on the subject...

An absolute "must" read!,

This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
I know this isn't a blog, but I'm stunned by "Cheri" who is miffed when she contacts Coffey's HERS Foundation about her hysterectomy, and gets "unsolicited advice" (?) This review also contradicts herself throughout, and refers to the information as "scare tactics" and radicalism. The blatant butchery and bullying that women have experienced for centuries is what's "scary," and perhaps this reviewer is confusing the two. If you find the TRUTH scary - then don't read this book. I find it refreshing to see someone swimming against the medical tsunami and providing us with information. I gave this book to a dear friend who eventually found out that she did NOT need a hysterectomy. I am so grateful that words cannot explain my emotion for my friend. Ms. Coffey's HERS Foundation has assisted almost 1 million women and made them question the sacrosanct "medical clergy." This book may well have saved my friend's life. Thank you, thank you, thank you to author Nora Coffey.

The H Word,
This review is from: The H Word: The diagnostic studies to evaluate symptoms, alternatives in treatment, and coping with the aftereffects of hysterectomy. (Paperback)
Hey Cheri, it sounds like HERS was right, that you didn't have ovarian cancer, and that their recommendation of a cystectomy to just remove the cyst, was the correct surgery. And the doctor who told your mother that there was no problem keeping her fibroids was right, how strange that she wasn't happy to hear that her fibroids didn't need surgery!
It sounds like this is a book you really need to read. Surprising you're so negative when you and your mother's outcomes were so good! |
